Overcoming Despair

Overcoming despair is my podcast today. Gloom, Despair, and Agony on me. Oh, how those words brought back a lot of great memories. I use to watch a TV show with my mom and dad back in the 70s called Hee Haw. It was a show with country comedians and musicians that would perform various skits. One of those skits had two performers singing the song Gloom Despair and Agony on me. Then they would say something funny about their trials and tribulations. They would repeat the song until another funny story. It was one of the funniest skits, and it makes me laugh today thinking about it.

Overcoming Despair

The beginning of 2021 had not been kind to me. Nope, not one bit. Most people could not wait for 2020 to end. I, for one, would not mind going back. Yes, this is me, the guy that is always talking about moving forward. I am that guy, but I would gladly rewind the clock and go back a year.

BOP, POW, ZOINK!!

Why do you say? Well, I’ll tell you. It seems as if life had put me in her crosshairs since the beginning of the year. I had taken blow after blow after blow. Every time I overcame one punch and thought things were getting better, she threw an uppercut. Hit me right on the chin. It had been so bad I began to feel despair. The words to that song flooded my brain, Gloom Despair and Agony on me. I knew I had to find a way of overcoming despair.

Despair

Despair is defined as loss of hope; a cause of hopelessness. It is what I was feeling just a few months ago. People have called me a lot of different things in my life. The one thing no one has ever called me was a quitter. So I fought on with every weapon I had. I was not losing ground but, I was not gaining any either. Overcoming despair was my goal.

Salvation

So as I continued to take punch after punch, bad news after bad news, I began to wonder what was coming next. Luckily I do not ever take on these battles alone. I have my family, my friends, and God. On one particularly bad day, I went to bed, and as I always do, I picked up a devotional guide, Feeding On Jesus by Jennifer Arimborgo. Jennifer is a wonderful person who is a missionary in the Amazon Jungle in Peru. Her website is feedingonjesus.com.

The devotional I turned to that night was Isaiah 35:4, “Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.'” I immediately was lifted out of my despair. God knows when you are feeling hopeless and places hope in front of you.

Life Ain’t All Sunshine

I knew right then that everything was going to be okay. In the words of Rocky Balboa, “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. It is not how hard you hit it is how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward” I knew I had to take the hits and keep moving forward.

Control

I cannot control what life throws at me. Neither can you. Two things I can control are my attitude and effort. I can focus my thoughts and not give in to despair. I believe and have faith that things will turn around. Some situations are too big for you and me to handle. These are the ones I turn over to God.

There have been several times in my life that I have sailed through troubled waters. Each time God has sent me a sign to tell me he is there and everything will be all right. I am lucky I have this great team of family, friends, and God. Together we can get through any storm. Because of them, I have been able to persevere through the difficult times in my life.

Better Times Ahead

Even though the beginning of this year had been a struggle for me, I knew there were better times ahead. The years to come will be filled with difficulty but also with much happiness. Whatever life wants to throw at me in the future, I am ready for it. I have God by my side. In the end, the good times will far outweigh the bad.

How To Overcome Distractions

Before I get started, I wanted to thank everyone that reads, listens, and follows my site. I am very humbled by your support. This is Episode 39 and I want to talk about how to overcome distractions. Life hit me hard one-day several months ago and I lost that battle. I have a lot of people both in-person and on WordPress who tell me they frequently experience similar events in their life. Therefore, I wanted to share what happened and how I dealt with it.

Are You Struggling With Self-Confidence? I Have Created A Course To Help You Find Yours!

Overcoming Distractions

I woke up at my usual time, around 4 a.m., and after completing my daily routine of meditation and prayer, I went out for a walk. I had a lot of energy and had a great workout. My day started like every other day and I was feeling very energetic. I had planned to go film a short course on self-confidence that I’m putting together. I packed up all my gear and right before I was heading out, I noticed that I had rehearsed the wrong introduction.

That didn’t bother me, as I told myself I would just spend the day rehearsing and go film the next day. Around noon something very strange happened. I became extremely fatigued and felt like I wanted to go to sleep. There was no reason that I could think of for me to feel this way. I fought it off for a while and then quickly realized I was losing the battle, so I laid down and took a nap.

The Distraction of Fatigue

Three hours later, I woke up and still felt extremely tired. Therefore, I couldn’t focus on anything and just felt like going back to sleep. I just laid in bed until dinner. After that, I went back and laid down. I went to sleep at my normal time, around 9:30 or 10, after giving thanks for my day and the day to come.

When I awoke today, I was still tired and stayed in bed until 7:00. As I was going through my morning routine, I realized what was happening. You see, I believe that we are constantly in a war between two opposing forces. Call it what you will, light versus darkness, Ying versus Yang, God versus Satan, it comes down to good versus evil. Whenever something good is about to happen in my life, I get hit with negativity.

More Distractions To Overcome

As I was writing my blog post, my wife came in and told me that she couldn’t get the garage door closed. Now, I had to spend time in the stifling heat trying to fix it and if I can’t, pay someone to repair it.

Once I realized what’s happening I knew how to combat it. How to overcome distractions is easy, I stick to my plan. I can control my plan, what I do today. I don’t waver from my plan or my daily goals. Some forces don’t want me to complete my course. I know that my course will help people and these forces who don’t want that to happen. Therefore they try to distract me from my definite purpose.

The Hardest Things

The things that are the hardest for me and I don’t look forward to doing are the things I need to do most. These are the things that are going to help me accomplish my goals. It is easy to get distracted and procrastinate when something is hard. I look at it like eating. The foods I don’t look forward to eating (vegetables) are the foods I need to eat the most of. Above all, they are the foods that are best for my body. So the battle continues, the dark side pulling you towards that tasty doughnut, and the light side showing you the broccoli.

Join Our Team!!

In conclusion, So whenever you find that negative things are going on in your life, it just means that great things are going to happen for you. Don’t be discouraged, you now know how to overcome distractions just stick to your plan, go over your goals, and continue your positive affirmations.

In addition, the next day I felt energetic and more like my old self. That day the battle was won by my enemy but the war is not over. Bring it on!

The Power Of The Unconscious Mind

Our minds are very powerful instruments. It is said that we only utilize 10% of the power of our brains. Think about all the wonderful things man has accomplished with only 10%. Can you imagine the great things we would see if we could tap into the other 90%? Our minds are so powerful that they can store our every thought and emotion. Depending on your thoughts and emotions this can be seen as good or bad. Positive thoughts will lead to a wonderful life. On the other hand, negative thoughts and emotions can hold you back from living your dreams. The power of the unconscious mind is unlimited.

A man is a by-product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes.

Releasing The Negative

The power of the unconscious mind is only limited by your negative thoughts. Luckily, you can release the negative challenges you are having. There are countless benefits you will attain from releasing these negative thoughts and emotions. Some of the negative energy that you hold onto are:
Anger
Fear
Pride
Resentment
A Limiting Mindset
and more…..

How we fare in any given situation depends on the conduct of our body, speech, and mind. Since the mind is the chief, a disciplined mind is essential.
~ Dalai Lama XIV

Never underestimate the Power of the Mind. Persist in creating new thoughts to prevent falling back into negative patterns. It is an ongoing struggle and you have to commit to winning if you are to succeed.
~ Bob Proctor

The Power Of The Unconscious Mind

I’m currently reading a book titled, You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hays that was recommended to me. This is an outstanding book by an accomplished author. Louise Hays believes in positive affirmations and beliefs. By repeating positive affirmations you can release the negative energy stored in your mind. She believes through a daily routine of repeating positive affirmations you can change your health. In her book, she states that you can heal diseases and chronic illnesses through positive affirmations.

Now, I am not 100% convinced that I could heal myself without medicine. I need to conduct more research on this phenomenon. I do know that your body reacts to the thoughts in your mind. If you believe you are going to die, no medicine can save you. I have read stories about people who have healed themselves utilizing only their thought process.

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.
~ Abraham Lincoln

Any idea, plan, or purpose may be placed in the mind through repetition of thought.
~ Napoleon Hill

Medical Miracles

In the book, The Secret, Dr. John Hagelin, Quantum Physicist, talks about the power of our thoughts. He says, “Our body is the product of our thoughts. We are beginning to understand in medical science the degree to which the nature of thoughts and emotions determines the physical substance and structure and function of our bodies.”

I’m sure you’ve heard of the “placebo effect” and how the power of suggestion affects the outcome of experiments. When you take any type of medicine, you might not know exactly how the medicine works. You still take the medicine because you trust your doctor and believe the medicine will work. How much of your recovery is due to the medicine, and how much is due to your belief?

Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to a solution.
~ David J. Schwartz

Convince your mind and you can do anything!
~ Avijeet Das

Cathy Goodman

I also read in, The Secret, about a woman named Cathy Goodman. Cathy Goodman was diagnosed with breast cancer. She truly believed in her heart, with her strong faith, that she was already healed. Every day she would say, “Thank you for my healing.” She believed she was healed and saw herself as if cancer were never in her body.

She would watch very funny movies to combat the stress in her life. She would sit with her husband and laugh. By laughing, she released all her negative energy. Laughter is the best medicine. She couldn’t afford to allow any negative thoughts into her mind while she was trying to heal herself. Cathy was completely healed three months after she was diagnosed. She did not go through any radiation or chemotherapy treatments.

Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.
~ Mary Kay Ash

Focused mind power is one of the strongest forces on earth.
~ Mark Victor Hansen

Morris Goodman

Another inspirational story I found in, The Secret is the story of The Miracle Man, Morris Goodman. On March 10, 1981, Morris was piloting an airplane when it developed engine trouble and crashed. His spinal cord was crushed and he was completely paralyzed. He broke the first and second cervical vertebrae, destroying his swallowing reflex. His diaphragm was destroyed and he couldn’t breathe.

All he could do was blink his eyes. The doctor said he would be a vegetable for the rest of his life. That was what the doctors thought, but that wasn’t what Morris thought. He pictured himself being a normal person again, walking out of that hospital. The only thing he had to work with was his mind.

Breathe

Morris kept thinking, over and over, “Breathe deeply.” He thought this day after day until he was finally weaned from the respirator. The doctors could not provide an explanation for what happened. He set a goal to walk out of the hospital on Christmas day. When Christmas arrived, that’s exactly what he did. He walked out of the hospital on his own two feet. Morris sums up his life with six words, “Man becomes what he thinks about.”

These are just a few stories that demonstrate the unlimited potential of the human mind. As it says in Philippians 4:13, “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” It doesn’t say that you can do some things or a few things. It says that you can do ALL things. This quote alone shows the unlimited potential of your mind. All you have to do is believe in your heart and give thanks.

It’s About You

It’s not about me, it’s about you. I was asked the other day why I started writing a blog and didn’t really have an answer to that question. I’m not in my 20s and I’m not just starting out in life. I’m very comfortable and don’t need any extra income that can be generated from writing a blog. Heck, I have never really enjoyed writing in my entire life. I loved my career and enjoyed the majority of it. I loved to be out on the street and participating in operations, but I hated writing reports. We had five days to get our reports in after an operation and my bosses were constantly hounding me to do my reports. Just the thought of all the hours it would take to compile my notes and write a passable report would fill me with dread. One of the reasons I loved being in the jungle was because we didn’t have to do reports.

I started to think about the question and realized that it will really wasn’t my decision. The thought was placed into me by a higher power. I really didn’t have a choice or did I? I could’ve ignored the thoughts but throughout my life, I’ve realized that when you’re led to do something by a higher power, do it. There are terrific benefits to doing it and it’s something you’re supposed to do. I could estimate that throughout my life I have listened to a higher power 90 percent of the time and made good decisions. At the same time, 10 percent of the time I ignored what I was being told and made bad decisions.

It all started after I heard a speech where someone said that you could make money online. This got my attention because I like money, money is good and you can never have enough of it. I don’t ever want to stop earning money. There are so many great things I can do with money and so many people I can help. So after hearing that you can make money online, I began researching it and was told I needed to write a blog. At first, I hesitated because I’m not a writer and who would read my stuff? There was one thought in my mind that would not go away, It’s not about me, it’s about you. It’s about you, the 7.8 billion people in the world. If somebody can take away just one thing from one of my blog posts and it changes their life, then everything I do is justified.

You have so much to give the world. Each and every one of you was born with your gifts to the world. Everybody has something inside of them that can help someone else. I believe it’s your obligation to pass your gift to others. My gift is motivation and people have told me that I say the right things at the right time and have helped people. If anyone has ever told you that you are good at something, that is your gift. We must continue spreading our gifts and never quit. When things get tough and you’re going through a difficult time, you have to find a way to reach down and fight through because someone, somewhere needs your gift. It’s not about you, it’s about them.

I will continue to talk to as many people as I can until my last breath. When things aren’t going well, I’ll keep going. When I’m talking and it seems like no one’s listening, I’ll keep talking. I’ll never quit, it’s just not in me. It’s not in you either. You might think so, but it’s not. When you think it is, get out of bed and go do it one more day. Do it the next day and the next until you’ve accomplished the mission. Everyone’s counting on you, so it’s your duty, your obligation to them to get it done. If you quit then you are letting down 7 .8 billion people. That’s a huge burden to have to live with for the rest of your life. Fight with all your being and when you feel you have nothing left in you, get up and take another swing. Whatever you do, never stop and keep moving forward.

Life is hard and it will hit you. It will take you to your knees. Anyone who has gone through life without any kind of struggles hasn’t lived. So when it hits you, hit back, keep hitting back, keep moving forward. As long as you’re moving forward you’re winning, it doesn’t matter what the score is. There are too many people counting on you. It might hurt and it might be hard but you gotta keep moving forward. It’s not about you, it’s about them.

The warrior mentality and the ability to fight are in us all. It is there at birth. We are all fighters and a fighter is going to fight. They won’t quit until they’ve won or died. Nothing can stop them. Nothing can stop you. Once you know what you want, go out and get it. Don’t ever let anyone or anything stop you. You and only you are in control and determine whether you win or lose. You will have successes and you will have failures but you will never quit. You will fight and fight and fight until you win. It’s not about you, it’s about them.

The 80/20 rule says that 20 percent of the people do 80 percent of the work. I was one of the 20 percent. It was ingrained in me in the military to accomplish the mission, that was the most important thing. Whenever one of my bosses needed something difficult done, they called on me because I always accomplished the mission, no matter how hard. I wouldn’t quit. You have to accomplish your mission and failure is not an option. You have been given a mission, whatever it may be and it is your duty to do what it takes to accomplish that mission and never quit. I won’t ever quit on you. When you win, then I win. I can’t succeed until you do. Keep fighting! It’s not about you, it’s about them.
