How Thoughts Become Ideas

Have you ever wondered how someone invents something that changes the world? Today I am going to talk about that process and how thoughts become ideas. Last week I talked about specialized knowledge and how to organize and direct knowledge to make it powerful. Today I’m continuing with the 13 steps to gain riches as written in the book, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. In his book, Hill gives us 13-steps to acquire wealth. The same steps and techniques can be used to acquire anything. This is the fifth step, imagination, and how imagination is more important than knowledge.

Thoughts Becoming Ideas

One of my favorite sayings is, and I say it a lot, is everything begins in the mind. Disneyland, McDonald’s, Apple, great novels, music, and movies all started in someone’s mind. They began with a thought and through imagination, their thoughts became an idea.

Imagination

Imagination is the workshop where people formulate their plans. The imaginative part of your mind is what spurs you into action. Without imagination, the Wright brothers would have never gotten off the ground and shown us we could fly. You are only limited by the use of your imagination.

There are two forms of imagination in your mind, synthetic and creative. Synthetic imagination creates nothing. It works with the information it’s given, your observations, education, and experience. This is where you can organize old concepts into new combinations and plans.

thoughts-become-ideas-McDonalds-restaurant-night

Creative

Creative imagination is when your finite mind connects to Infinite Intelligence. Hunches and inspirations are received by your creative imagination. It only works when your mind vibrates at an exceedingly fast rate, such as when you focus on a strong desire (your definite purpose) and mix it with emotion. It is through emotion that you increase your mind’s rate of vibration.

Great men and women of the world in all walks of life owe their success to the faculty of creative imagination. They knew how to utilize their minds to turn their definite purpose from an idea into reality. Your imagination, just like your body, becomes stronger with use. Your imagination, like your muscles, becomes weaker through inaction.

Development

To achieve your goals, you must first focus on developing your synthetic imagination. It is necessary for forming your plans. Once your plans are in your synthetic imagination you must commit them to paper. Writing your plan is the first step in converting your thoughts into your reality.

Product of Imagination

Ideas are the product of imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge because knowledge comes from your imagination. Most people, even the most successful, didn’t know how to take their ideas and make them work. They used imagination, both synthetic and creative to transform their ideas into reality.

How do thoughts become ideas? Use your synthetic imagination to formulate your plans on how to achieve your goals. Develop your creative imagination to provide the inspiration and ideas from Infinite Intelligence. Would you like to be in a better place in life this time next year? If so, find your definite purpose, write down a plan for how to make it happen, and begin developing your imagination. We live in an unlimited universe, therefore anything can happen.

Kalpana Chawla Dared To Dream

My wife and I were watching the SpaceX rocket launch last week and it reminded me of a post I wrote about Kalpana Chawla. Kalpana inspires me because she is an example of making dreams come true by her thoughts. She accomplished much in her short life. Today, millions of people are inspired because Kalpana Chawla dared to dream.

I’ve always been interested in space travel. I watch every launch I can. I remember watching the first astronauts launch in the 60s and continue to watch the SpaceX launches. My first recollection of seeing Kalpana Chawla was when she was a member of mission STS-107 and was about to board the space shuttle Columbia on January 16, 2003. Kalpana stood out to me as the seven Columbia crew members were shown walking to their vehicles. She appeared too young and small to be an astronaut. How she carried herself with such confidence was what stood out to me.

Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla was born July 1, 1961, in Karnal, India. She always enjoyed flying and held many pilot licenses. She could fly about any airplane. Her family was middle class and she graduated from high school in 1976. After graduating from high school, she found herself as the only female in the aeronautics batch at Punjab University. Her parents resisted her career choice but nothing could stop Kalpana.

Kalpana Chawla dared to dream and always had big dreams. Her dreams were to travel beyond the blue yonder, fly into the heavens, and touch the stars someday. She became the first female Indian-born NASA astronaut. Kalpana wanted to show the world that dreams do come true with hard work and patience. She said, “You can achieve what you dream with strength, endurance, willpower, and confidence. She was 1 of 2000 applicants for a civilian scientist’s position on Columbia’s voyage.

Kalpana’s Thoughts Became Her Reality

When she was living in the dorms while studying for her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees, she had pictures of space shuttles taped to her walls. She didn’t think at the time she was putting them up that one day she would fly on one. When I read about this it didn’t surprise me because what you look at every day becomes your thoughts in your subconscious. Your thoughts turn into your reality.

Kalpana-Chawla-dared-dream-space-shuttle

Kalpana is a great example that we can become anything we want to if we put our mind to it. She dreamed of flying to the stars, surrounded herself with pictures of the space shuttle, which became her thoughts. Her thoughts directed her actions and interactions became reality. She set goals to keep her on track and enjoyed the journey. Her thoughts on goals were, “When you are going for a goal, the journey is the best part.”

Heading Into Space

Kalpana’s first opportunity to travel beyond the blue yonder and fly into the heavens came when she was selected to be part of the crew on mission STS-87 in November 1997. She flew on the space shuttle Columbia as they completed 252 orbits of the earth in just over two weeks. In 2000, she was selected for her second voyage on Columbia as a mission specialist on STS-107. Because of many delays they didn’t launch until January 16, 2003. It was an ill-fated launch due to a piece of foam that broke off and damaged the heat tiles on the spacecraft wing.

On February 1, 2003, I was running on a treadmill at my gym and turned on the TV to watch Columbia land. They showed maps of the flight path Columbia would take to land at Kennedy Space Center. I began reading at the bottom of the screen that they had lost communication. The next images were from cameras in Texas and showed fiery streaks in the sky. I realized at that moment that Columbia had broken up in the crew had perished. It was a sad day for the world and particularly the country of India.

Women’s Struggles In India

Kalpana Chawla had accomplished much while growing up in a male-dominated society and country. In the 1970s and 1980s, women in India were fighting battles against:

            – Dowry

            – Rape

            – Caste Crimes

            – Unjust Laws

            – Better Working Conditions

            – and more.

My admiration for Kalpana Chawla comes from the fact that she would not let anything stop her from her dreams. She had a definite purpose and persevered to achieve her dreams. For millions of young Indians, she was inspirational. Kalpana Chawla dared to dream. She gave them hope that they could dream and work hard to achieve those dreams.

How Do You Defeat Procrastination?

How do you defeat procrastination? Action! In episode 33 of my podcast, I tackle the crippling effects of inaction. If you find yourself procrastinating and not working towards becoming a better you, you need to listen to this episode. Here is the link to my new podcast site, lessonslearntbecomingabetteryou.wordpress.com

Now That You Have Made The Decision To Begin Your Journey To Self-Improvement These Courses Will Propel You To Success!

Defeating Procrastination

All right, you have decided to become the person others want to be. You’ve taken that first step on your journey. Goals have been set and you have written a detailed plan for accomplishing them. Now what? How are you going to get to that finish line? You see, it’s all a waste of time and energy if you don’t begin to do the work. You have to crack that egg to make your omelet. Congratulations! It’s time to take that first step on your journey to a new you.

This is the most important step, ACTION. Once you have made your decision to accomplish anything, 50% of the work is done. Congratulations once again, you are already halfway there. The other 50% comes from the action of getting it done.

It’s great that you have set your goals, written a good plan, and are ready to change. Unfortunately, nothing will change without ACTION. You must do the work. This is what stops most people. They are unwilling to do the work and make the sacrifices. This is why only 1% of people succeed. You are not like most people. It is inside you to get moving and take that step.

A Small Change Can Defeat Procrastination

A small change in your thought process can result in a large change in your lifestyle. That change is called ACTION. Inaction creates procrastination. Why do you procrastinate?

You have to get out of your comfort zone.

You have a fear of failure.

The fear of success.

Defeat Procrastination By Getting Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Moving out of your comfort zone is difficult. It’s called a comfort zone for reason, it’s comfortable. You don’t like to be uncomfortable, nobody does. But it’s necessary for change.

Whenever you decide to do anything significant, like change, you experience a fear of failure. This is common. Those annoying little Doubt Demons will come out of hiding, repeating those thoughts of failure. “What if I fail, what will people say?”

Procrastination also comes from a fear of success. Many people do not see themselves as being successful. What will happen in your life if you succeed in accomplishing your goal? How will your life change? If your business becomes successful, how will that impact your time? Your family? You will have to deal with these fears before you can take that first step.

Other Reasons

Other reasons for inaction and procrastination can be:

Your goal is overwhelming.

It’s too complicated.

The timing isn’t right.

Goals can be overwhelming. Think about if your goal is to become a published author. The thought of coming up with an exciting plot and intriguing characters that keep the reader engaged. Writing 50,000 to 100,000 words can be staggering.

When you start on a new journey there can be a learning curve. Your goal can seem too complicated. If you decide to start a new business, you might not know what it takes to run a business. You will have to spend a lot of time studying and learning.

The Timing Is Never Right

Probably the greatest cause of procrastination is timing. You want to change your life, but today is not the best day to start. You don’t feel prepared. Equipment needs to be bought. How to Books need to be read. You decide to begin an exercise program to lose weight. Procrastination sets in because you don’t have the right clothes.

defeat-procrastination-scrabble-letters-tomorrow

I’m here to tell you that all the reasons outlined above are one thing. EXCUSES! They all stink.

There Is One Way To Defeat Procrastination

There is one way to defeat procrastination which is created by inaction and you know what it is. ACTION! When you take that first step and put your plan to action, it does some marvelous things to your mindset.

It conquers your fears.

Provides you with the knowledge of how you’re going to accomplish your goal.

K. I. S. S. Things become simpler.

You will eliminate all excuses.

It will ignite a passion within you.

Stepping out of your comfort zone will become tolerable.

You will learn how to embrace failure.

Action will chase those Doubt Demons back into their hiding place. You will be able to control and conquer all your fears.

Focus On WHY

Focusing on your WHY will keep you from worrying about how you’re going to accomplish your goals. You will learn new things and techniques to put your plan into motion.

Your mind will take your overwhelming goal and break it down. You will look at your project in smaller more manageable bits. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. (Please don’t try to eat an elephant. They are magnificent and there aren’t enough of them.)

All the excuses that caused you to procrastinate will become trivial. With ACTION you will begin to eliminate your excuses one by one. Pretty soon they will be all gone.

The greatest reward of taking the first step in putting your plan into ACTION is passion. It will ignite a passion within you to achieve your goal. Once you have lit this passion, you become unstoppable.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is hard. Possibly, one of the hardest things you do. Once you’re out, you realize that you can survive. Even though it might not be comfortable taking ACTION, you find that it is tolerable.

Failure is going to happen. Anyone who has ever accomplished anything great has had many failures along the way. The reason that they were successful was that they persevered. You are going to have failures and setbacks along the way. Embrace your failures, don’t hide from them. Don’t use them as an excuse to quit. Once you fail, you are closer to success. They are just steppingstones along the way.

Valentine’s Day is coming! My wife and I have been together for 30 years and are happier than ever. Here are some tips on how we keep our relationship fresh and exciting. Get your FREE Relationship Tips Today!

Episode 28 How To Overcome Self-Doubt

I’ve talked about this in several previous articles and want to discuss it more thoroughly today. I’m talking about those little creatures that hide deep inside our minds. The ones that pop up at the worst of times. Their only function is to prevent you from living the life you so richly deserve. Yes, I am talking about those dreaded “Doubt Demons!” They are there, dug in deep and camouflaged, waiting for the right time to come out. It is imperative to stifle these demons. If at all possible, they should be eradicated.

Take Control Of Your Life! My Courses Give You What You Need.

Like all demons, they are created by fear. They are particularly active right after you make a decision to change yourself for the better. Have you ever tried to lose weight and began to get cravings for unhealthy foods? Doubt Demons. If you’ve ever attempted to get a promotion, you might have started noticing the quality of the other candidates. You begin to compare yourself with them and believe that they are better. Doubt Demons. Did you start a business for financial freedom? After you made that decision were you engulfed in fear, asking yourself, “how will I pay the bills?” Doubt Demons.

overcome-self-doubt-red-devil-figurine

Where They Come From

Any thought you have that fills you with fear is placed there by the Doubt Demons. Where do they come from? Unfortunately, these Doubt Demons can be given life inadvertently. When we are young and our thoughts are forming, we are very vulnerable. Many times our Doubt Demons are placed into our subconscious mind by adults who don’t realize the harm they are doing. Often your parents, teachers, etc. have tried to protect you from disappointment. They say things like, “he’s just shy,” “she’s not a good test taker,” or “it takes money to make money.”

Statements

Any statement such as the ones above gives life to these Doubt Demons. Imagine what will happen if you want to ask out the girl of your dreams but you been told that you are shy. You want to go to the college of your choice but are “not a good test taker.” Doubt Demons are not exclusively given life just when we’re young. They can also be placed in us as adults by our coworkers and friends. Have you ever told a friend about a big dream? If their response was less than enthusiastic, it gave life to your Doubt Demons.

Do you want some tips and techniques to control your Doubt Demons? Listen to my podcast above, Episode 28 How To Overcome Self-Doubt.

Perseverance Is The Key To Success

Do you ever wonder, why isn’t anything easy? Wouldn’t it be so nice if we could go through life without any struggles? Especially during these trying times in which we are currently living. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen because life itself is a struggle and it takes strength and perseverance to get by. People who succeed in life are persistent. They learn how to improvise, adapt, and overcome. This is a phrase that Clint Eastwood made famous in his movie, Heartbreak Ridge. Perseverance is the key to success.

Let’s Accomplish Something Great Together! Get Your FREE Checklist!

Perseverance Is The Key To Success

You can’t get something great without giving something up. The struggles that we go through are necessary in order to accomplish our goals. God presents these struggles to us and we must learn to overcome them. Even though our struggles seem mighty, God never gives us more than we can handle. Whatever you’re going through, rest assured that it’s already inside you to overcome that struggle. The comedian Steve Harvey talks about his struggles when he first tried to make it in comedy. Looking at him now you would never know that he had to live in his car for three years while he was struggling to make it. He persevered and now leads an abundant wealthy lifestyle. He had no idea how long it would take him to achieve his goals.

Persevere, Your Struggles Don’t Last Forever

We must persevere because our struggles don’t last forever. As I said earlier, they can never be too hard because God never gives us more than we can handle. If you improvise, adapt, and overcome, you will come out stronger and better. You can have the life you always wanted. In order to persevere, you must have a definitive purpose, a big WHY. This will get you through when it gets too hard, and you don’t feel like it’s worth the struggle. Do a little bit every day to get you closer to your goals and always keep moving forward, never go back. A great book to read on perseverance is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho

Are you hurting right now? Is life kicking you in the teeth and every day is a struggle?  We are all going through tough times these days and no one knows when it will end.  All we can do is improvise, adapt, and overcome. Set your goals, make a plan, and put action to that plan. Find your definitive purpose and if you don’t have one, ask. It will be shown to you. Keep things simple and form a team of people who will support you until your struggle ends. Were all in this together and we will need the help of each other to get through. Perseverance is the key to success.

Episode 26: What Are Your Gifts And Talents?

The subject of the podcast, “Episode 26: What Are Your Gifts And Talents?” is near and dear to my heart. That is your gift. This is not a gift wrapped in pretty paper with ribbons and bows, it’s a gift that you carry around inside of you. You have had it your entire life. The gift I am talking about has been placed in you, by God, before you are born. Everyone is born with their gift and I hope that this podcast will help you to discover your gift.

Are You Struggling With Self-Confidence? I Have Created A Course To Help You Find Yours!

Have You Discovered Your Gifts And Talents?

These gifts that we are born with can be the same or different than other people’s gifts. They are specifically tailored to you and you can choose to utilize them or not. Many people don’t even realize the gift that’s inside of them. They can search their whole lives trying to find out what they should do or become. While they are on their quest to find out who they are, they search everywhere but never look inside themselves. Their gift was there all along.

what-are-your-gifts-talents-helping-homeless-man

The Gift Of Giving

Frequently, I have people talk to me about not having a direction in their life. They don’t know what their gift is and seem lost. Their lives have become stuck in a rut and they’ve ceased to move forward. Next, they will ask me, what my gift is? My gift is giving. I want to be able to help as many people as I can by giving them inspiration. Even at Christmas, I have always enjoyed giving more than receiving. I received more joy by watching others open gifts that I had given them than I did opening my gifts. Don’t get me wrong. I was delighted and thankful for the gifts I got, but happier watching others.

How Do You Find Your Gifts And Talents?

After explaining what my gift is, the next question that I get is, how did I find out what my gift is? The answer to that question is simple, I asked. After I asked God what my gift was, I began to realize how happy it made me to give to others. I realized my whole life that I had been serving others, giving my time and talents to keep others safe. Also, more and more people began telling me that my words helped and inspired them. I remembered the inspirational words of my mother, who gave me one of my greatest gifts when she said, “you can become anything you want as long as you put your mind to it.” I became someone that found joy in helping others. What are your gifts and talents?

Let’s Do Something Special Together In 2021!

If you’re searching for your gift, ask yourself this question. What am I good at? Take an inventory of your life, search deep, and see what you come up with. Think about what other people have told you that you are good at. If nobody has ever told you that you are good at something, then start asking questions of your friends and family members. Finally, ask yourself, what makes me happy? Hopefully, this will lead you to discover what your gift is. Please remember, your first step in finding your gift is to simply ask. Ask the universe and it will be revealed to you.

I hope you enjoyed Episode 26: What Are Your Gifts And Talents? Have you discovered yours? Leave a comment and let me know what your gifts and talents are. If you need help with finding your gifts and talents send me an email at tbcinspires@gmail.com.

Episode 25: Failure To Success

In today’s podcast, Episode 25: Failure To Success, I discuss why failure is necessary on your journey to success. Every failure provides a learning opportunity.

Do you want to be in the same place a year from now? If not I have the solution.

Episode 25: Failure To Success

What is failure? How do we define it? In the dictionary failure has many meanings, it can be defined as a lack of success or one that has failed. I believe this is too broad a definition and I refer back to some of my previous posts where I talked about success. Success being different for each person means also that failure can be different for different people. I prefer to define failure as a necessary building block on the road to success. Very few people have immediate success when they begin a new venture.

failure-to-success-girl-running-snow
Get up, begin again

No Success Is Without It’s Failures

We must come to understand that failure is important and necessary to succeed. Everything is a learning process and I like to refer to the process as a journey. We all start out on a journey with a full pack of food and gear. The first steps are taken on a nice comfortable well-worn path as we are full of energy. At some point along the way, the path becomes overgrown with vines and covered in rocks. Our food supply begins to dwindle as our journey becomes more laborious. We don’t arrive at our destination before winter sets in and we have to turn back. Our journey is a failure.

We didn’t quit on our journey; we are just temporarily delayed. Our failure has presented itself as a learning lesson that our journey will take longer and we need to begin earlier in the year before winter sets in. Most journeys to success follow the same path, begin, fail, learn, and begin again.

Subscribe to my monthly newsletter and get your FREE Checklist For Success!

Mistakes We Make

One of the biggest mistakes I believe we make in our society is not teaching children about failure. We plant the idea of perfection in their heads by saying things like, “don’t color outside the lines.” We teach that failure is a bad thing, children don’t learn how to deal with failure when it happens. This can put a lot of pressure on a young mind. Instead, let’s begin to teach children that failure is a steppingstone and to learn from it. Utilize failure in order to succeed.

In conclusion, the idea that I would like you to take away from this article is to get rid of your fear of failure. Embrace your failures, use them as a learning tool, and make changes to your plan. Remember that your goal doesn’t change, only your plan. With every failure, you will find yourself one step closer to becoming the person you are meant to be. The only way you can truly fail at anything is to quit. Never quit.

Episode 23: 2020 – A Look Back

So, 2020 is coming to an end. We are in the last couple of days and I know a lot of people are very thankful. For a lot of people 2020 has been a dumpster fire and a year to forget. We have had to put up with COVID-19, many natural disasters, and civil unrest. For me, 2020 has been one of my best years. Despite everything that’s happened this year, I’m a better person today than I was this time last year.

At the end of the year, I like to review the goals that I set and everything that’s happened during that year. At the beginning of 2020, I decided to become a better person by the end of the year. Looking back, I can say today that I am a better person. I accomplished a great deal this year and took advantage of every opportunity that came my way.

Money & Relationships in 2020

Financially I took a hit but still came out pretty well. After being together for 30 years, my relationship with my wife has never been better. We have grown a lot closer this year. I was able to reestablish a relationship with my son. My relationships with my daughters continue to thrive. I continue to cultivate my relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Physically

I continued to stay physically fit even though I had to start exercising at home. I remained healthy all year and avoided all viruses. My annual physical turned out excellent with great bloodwork results. Three months short of my 60th birthday I was able to complete The Murph Challenge on Memorial day. I have been able to take all challenges that 2020 threw it me and still kept moving forward.

2021

2021 is full of possibilities. Everything that I accomplished in 2020 has set me up for a very prosperous and abundant year. All the things that I set in place will begin to grow in 2021. 2020 has shown me that life is going to happen no matter what. It is how we approach these events and the choices we make that will determine the outcome. It will either shine you up or grind you up. Only I had the power to decide how my life was going to be at the end of the year. Today I can say 2020 was one of the best years that I ever had.

Episode 21 – Simplify Your Life In 2021

This is a summary of my Podcast Episode 21 – Simplify Your Life In 2021. Why do we complicate everything? We tend to complicate all things, especially those that are important, relationships, creating wealth, or getting healthy, pretty much anything. My grandmother could simplify anything. If you went outside and it was cold, go put on a jacket; if you went outside and got wet, you might need a raincoat.

Episode 21 – Simplify Your Life In 2021

Everything nowadays seems so complicated that we need to break it down into its simplest form in order to understand it. When I was in the jungle, I carried the explosives we used two destroy the cocaine labs. Trying to understand the scientific facts of how explosives work can be complicated. It wastes a lot of time looking at formulas, trying to figure out the best locations to place the dynamite.

We didn’t have a lot of time to do that. I learned in my training the simple fact is energy caused by the explosion always travels along the path of least resistance. If you wanted the explosion to travel in a certain direction, he just had to pile rocks and other heavy objects against the charge on the side opposite of the direction you wanted the explosion to travel. You don’t have to complicate things in order to obtain great results.

Iron Man Does It

The character Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, when faced with a problem calls up his computer and several holographic computer screens appear in front of him. These screens are loaded down with a plethora of scientific data and it might take someone days to try to figure it out. Tony Stark looks at all the data in front of him and immediately starts capturing a screen and swiping his hand to the side to eliminate it. He continues to do this until he is left with just one screen on which he finds a solution. He just simply broke everything down to its simplest form. That’s what we need to do to accomplish our goals, break down our plan to its simplest form.

Paralysis By Analysis

When we first start something, it can look so complicated that we don’t know where to start. We then never commence to doing anything and our goal is left unfulfilled. This is called “Paralysis by Analysis.” We just get too much information, over-analyze this information, and never get started. We don’t take the first step. If you’re trying to do something and are frozen by fear or are having paralysis by analysis, break it down to its simplest form and just do it.

Join Our Team!

You can accomplish anything that you set your mind to as long as you don’t get paralysis by analysis and never get started. In the military, we are taught early on the K.I.S.S. principle. That’s Keep It Simple St****. Break it down to its simplest form, do it, and build on it until you succeed.

Making Good Choices – Ep 13

We have choices to make every day. Do we get out of bed now or do we roll over and go back to sleep? Do we pick up our phone as soon as we wake up or look at it later? What are we going to wear? What are we going to have for breakfast? We are inundated with choices that we have to make every day. In my blog titled, Anxiety (COVID-19), I wrote about the current situation that we are facing today and how that has created choices. We have a choice between faith and fear. I will always choose faith over fear.

Habits

The first step to making a decision to change is simple, you have to look inside yourself. Write down everything that you do on a normal day. The next day, read what you have written down. These are the habits that have gotten you to where you are now in life. If that’s where you want to be and you are happy, then continue doing these things.

If you are not where you want to be in life and want more out of it, then you have to change these habits. My advice, if you’re looking for a place to start, is to read or listen to books about the habits of people you would consider successful. Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a great book to start with. Successful people become successful not out of luck, but through their daily habits. If you want more out of life, ask yourself if you are willing to change. If the answer is yes, then there is no better time to start than now.
