Making Good Choices – Ep 13

We have choices to make every day. Do we get out of bed now or do we roll over and go back to sleep? Do we pick up our phone as soon as we wake up or look at it later? What are we going to wear? What are we going to have for breakfast? We are inundated with choices that we have to make every day. In my blog titled, Anxiety (COVID-19), I wrote about the current situation that we are facing today and how that has created choices. We have a choice between faith and fear. I will always choose faith over fear.

Habits

The first step to making a decision to change is simple, you have to look inside yourself. Write down everything that you do on a normal day. The next day, read what you have written down. These are the habits that have gotten you to where you are now in life. If that’s where you want to be and you are happy, then continue doing these things.

If you are not where you want to be in life and want more out of it, then you have to change these habits. My advice, if you’re looking for a place to start, is to read or listen to books about the habits of people you would consider successful. Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a great book to start with. Successful people become successful not out of luck, but through their daily habits. If you want more out of life, ask yourself if you are willing to change. If the answer is yes, then there is no better time to start than now.

  4. This is really good advice – there are quite a few habits that I do during the day that annoys me but I rarely stop to address them or make an effort to change. This post made me realise how silly it was to keep putting it off. If I want to make the right choices during the day, then I need to make a concious effort to make them. Thank you.

  5. very inspiring sir… but many times we tend to doubt our choices that we made few years back. How can we avoid this thought?? Many times I feel bad about the choices I made after giving a deep thought. how can I be positive about the choice I made??

    1. If you think about the choice before you make it and it makes you happy, then it is the right choice. Not all of our choices are right. As long as you are making mostly good decisions you will live a good life. In my 60 years, 90% of my choices were good ones. My life has turned out very well.
You can look at your choices years later and see the results of that choice. If the results are not working out like you had hoped, then you might not have made the right choice. It is never too late to change.
I hope this helps. Thank you for your insightful questions and wonderful comments. Take care, Deepika.
      Scott

      1. This makes sense to me… i will definitely be more cautious of what I choose.. though some permanent choices cannot be changed.. but that has taught me a lesson for sure about how to choose.. 😬

  6. That last nudge to put on the pads and get out on the field is what I needed. I’m putting more time and effort where I want to, where I feel called to, but some days are still tough. Reading and listening to others following their journeys reminds me we all encounter obstacles. They won’t stop us. We stop ourselves by thinking there is no way to overcome the obstacles.

God gives us what we need to succeed if we put in the hard yards.

    Peace.
