Enjoy Life Quote

As humans, we are meant to enjoy life. Getting the most out of our time here. We are put here to learn to love unconditionally, which cannot be accomplished if you are not enjoying everything life has to give. Below is a beautiful enjoy life quote that sums up what I’m saying.

A Wonderful Enjoy Life Quote

“Cherish your solitude. Take trains by yourself to places you have never been. Sleep out alone under the stars. Learn how to drive a stick shift. Go so far away that you stop being afraid of not coming back. Say no when you don’t want to do something. Say yes if your instincts are strong, even if everyone around you disagrees. Decide whether you want to be liked or admired. Decide if fitting in is more important than finding out what you’re doing here. Believe in kissing.”

Eve Ensler

Advancement in technology has taken some of the enjoyment out of living. We become so comfortable; that we miss out on the small, ever-so-fleeting aspects the world has to offer. The more you have, the less you notice these little gems.

People with the least have a better chance to enjoy life as it was meant to be. My grandparents lived on a small farm in the country and didn’t have a lot. They didn’t have air conditioning; we enjoyed the summer breezes that came through the open windows of their house

Listen To The Wind

Days were filled with being outside, sitting under a shade tree with a good book in hand. Periodically, I would stop reading, put down the book, and enjoy listening to the sounds of the wind rustling through the trees.

When it started to rain, we didn’t immediately run inside. We soaked it up, enjoying the coolness of each raindrop as it ran down our faces. The rain brought life and was always welcome. Once the sun came back out, we enjoyed the warmth of its rays. Soon, we were dry again.

Enjoy Everything

When winter came, I always enjoyed the sting of the cold on my cheeks when I ventured outdoors we played in the snow until our feet were numb; only then going indoors and propping up our feet by the fire. The smell and sounds of wood burning are something I’ll never forget. A winter’s night is special with its cool, crisp air. The sky is so clear you can see every star and planet.

Whatever day or season it is, I hope that you will turn off the weather, open the door and spend time outdoors. Focus on the sights, sounds, and smells. See how truly green the tree leaves are and how blue the sky is. Enjoy life and live it to its fullest. Open your heart to find the peace and joy that comes from experiencing the gifts of our planet.

The Perfect Quote

Today, I want to share a God wink I received the other day. It came in the form of an email called Inspiring Quotes. Now, I receive hundreds of emails daily and do not read 99.9% of them. I hit edit, select all, and click trash. The procedure gets repeated several times a day. For whatever reason (God), I opened this email and read the perfect quote for me at this time.

The perfect quote came from the artist Vincent van Gogh and it reads:

“The man of faith, of energy, of warmth… Steps in and does something.”

It is a line from a letter that van Gogh wrote to his brother, Theo, in 1884. Van Gogh expresses the need for action.

This Was The Perfect Quote For Me That Day

When we begin anything, a painting, a book, a new goal or challenge, first we have to overcome fear and doubt and simply do. Van Gogh went on to write, “Many painters are afraid of the blank canvas, but the blank canvas is afraid of the truly passionate painter who dares and who has once broken the spell of ‘You Can’t.'”

Earlier this month, a few young women came to me with an idea they had for a phone app. They asked me what I thought, and I told them it was a great idea. I then told them if they wanted it to come to life, they had to put action into the idea.

When You Receive Something, Act On It

All ideas come from God or the Universe, and you receive them for a reason. It is something you are meant to do. If you do not act on them, they will be given to someone else. Recently I asked them how it was going and found out they had not put action to their idea. Fear and self-doubt stopped them from acting on the idea.

Don’t let this happen to you. Step in and do something. Overcome all obstacles and Simply Do!

Harold The King of Fear and Self-Doubt

It has been a while since I last posted, and, unbeknownst to me, I guess I needed a break. I have been dealing with resistance, and I could not come up with anything to write. I am still drawing a blank, therefore, I am posting about my friend Harold, the King of fear and self-doubt.

Get A Printable and An Editable Planner For Free. The Planner Includes A Gratitude Pad And Journaling Pages. Also A 12 Month Fillable Calendar.

Do You Have A Harold The King of Fear and Self-Doubt?

If you have read my story, you know that I lived with fear and self-doubt for 47 years. It was my inner turmoil despite all the achievements I had made in my life. It took battling cancer to begin to be myself, a confident and fearless man.

When I was younger, I focused on the future. The future is filled with anxiety and doubt. It caused me to look at my past which was filled with self-doubt. Everyone was better than me. My life, viewed from the outside, didn’t match what was going on in my head.

The Now

Today, I focus on what is happening now. I look inside myself and feel what’s going on. I ask myself, how am I feeling right now? If I experience something negative, I want to know how my body is feeling. What does my reaction feel like? Is my heart beating faster? Does my stomach feel like it’s in knots?

Focusing on the NOW has helped me control and eliminate fear and self-doubt. I understand that those thoughts don’t come for me. They come from other sources. For example, a baseball/softball player walks to the plate to face a great picture. He/she is not thinking they are going to strike out. They are thinking about hitting the ball. They don’t sabotage their at-bat by purposely thinking of the worst outcome. Those thoughts come from outside.

Doubt Demons

I call these entities that produce negative thoughts, Doubt Demons. I have struggled with my Doubt Demons in the past. In the last couple of years, I have been able to remove most of them from my head. All except Harold. Harold is rooted pretty deep. He moved in early in my life and has made quite a home.

Like the old man living on Mount Saint Helens before the eruption, he isn’t leaving. Harold is the annoying roommate. He appears at the worst times and will not shut up. All my bad thoughts, fears, and self-doubts come from Harold.

Becoming Friends

Since it seems I can’t get rid of him, I have made friends with Harold. When he appears, I laugh at his efforts and send him back to his room. Because Harold’s only purpose is to keep me where I am, he has perfected his technique. What Harold doesn’t know is that I have a secret weapon.

Since I have grown spiritually, Harold’s old techniques don’t work anymore. He doesn’t hang around very long when he appears. If he did, he would be destroyed by my faith. Harold and faith cannot exist together.

Hit The Switch

Harold is darkness. To destroy darkness, one has to introduce light. Faith is light. Harold’s technique now is to appear for a microsecond. He appears; I have a brief feeling of doubt inside, and he is gone. That’s all it takes, a microsecond.

Jesus said, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains. How much doubt does it take not to move a mountain? It would be a lot smaller than a mustard seed. Harold knows it only takes one quick thought of doubt to stop me from manifesting change in my life.

It is time for Harold, the King of Fear and Self-Doubt to go permanently. I continue my readings, research, and studies. As I grow spiritually, Harold will eventually have to pack up and move out. I will gladly help him pack his bags and do the duffel bag drag into oblivion. My faith will continue to grow until I become the person I am meant to be.

Create Balance

It has been 11 months since I had a major disruption in my life. I unexpectedly ended up in the hospital, eventually undergoing a surgical procedure. After I was released from the hospital, my life was thrown completely off balance. At the time, I didn’t know how to create balance and become the person I was two weeks earlier.

Create Balance In Your Body

Let me set the scene for you. In December 2020, I had completed a self-analysis and set my goals for 2021. January came, and I was off to a great start. I was full of energy, creativity flowed, and I was inspired to write daily. Several blogs and podcasts were scheduled on my site.

In late February, I went to bed feeling normal but woke up around midnight vomiting. If I ate or drank even the smallest amount, up it would come. It went on for two days, causing my visit to the hospital. Long story short, I was there for two weeks and had my third major abdominal surgery. I wrote a more detailed post about my ordeal last year.

Something Was Off

After I was released during the first week of March, everything had changed. I didn’t feel the same, and I didn’t know why. The doctors had told me it would take three months to recover physically. That’s not what I’m talking about here. I wasn’t the same person mentally as before I went in.

I didn’t know that my issues were more spiritual than physical. All I knew was that I had no inspiration, creativity, or energy. My life had changed negatively during those two short weeks. The only thing I knew to do was to get back on my schedule of daily gratitude and prayer.

Drawing A Blank

Even after getting back to my normal schedule, I wasn’t the same. I couldn’t find my desire and inspiration. I would sit down to write and just stare at the blank page. There was nothing there. What I didn’t know at the time was I was unbalanced and needed to create balance within my body.

I am a neophyte when it comes to spirituality. That instruction had not been imparted to me. I did not know about the energy centers in our bodies. Living spiritually appeared on my radar and jumped to the top of my priority list.

Read, Read, Read

A good friend recommended a few books to read. I purchased them and dove in headfirst. The book that started the journey was the untethered soul, by Michael Singer. Singer talked about opening your heart to activate inner energy. He touched on the energy centers of our body, also known as chakras.

Ahhh….Bookstores

A few months later, I wandered into the newly reopened Barnes & Noble. It is the only true bookstore in town. I do love bookstores and miss the small mom-and-pop ones you use to could find in every town. Not planning on purchasing anything, I just browsed, enjoying the atmosphere.

While browsing, I found myself drawn to The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I walked away twice, but the draw was too strong. It is a powerful book which I’m reading for the second time. Tolle also discusses chakras briefly.

Spirituality

I decided to learn more about spirituality and downloaded books on meditation and chakras. The answers were right there in front of me. During this life disruption, my chakras had become unbalanced. My mind and body didn’t feel right. You know that feeling that something isn’t right, but you just can’t put your finger on it.

This revelation only happened a couple of months ago. Inspiration to write had returned much earlier, but it wasn’t the same. I didn’t know how I lost my inspiration, but now I knew exactly why I was feeling the way I felt. The proper way to put it is probably; I wasn’t feeling the way I wanted to feel; the feeling I had before the disturbance.

Knowledge

Knowledge is power. Knowing why my energy centers became unbalanced and closed gave me the power to create balance in my life. I am happy to say I am feeling great now. If some unforeseen circumstance disrupts my life in the future, I will know how to find my balance again.

I am continuing to learn about living spiritually, and hopefully, I will have more great experiences to share. There are some great sites on WordPress that have a much better grasp on spirituality. Check out my friends, Cindy at Uniquelyfitblog.com, and Sheila at takeituponyourself.wordpress.com. If you are feeling unbalanced, like something is missing, try getting in touch with your spiritual side. Create balance in your life.

Definition Of A Growth Mindset

The definition of a growth mindset is you believe your talents can be developed through hard work and good strategies. In comparison, the definition of a fixed mindset is you believe your talents are innate, they cannot be improved upon.

Get A Printable and An Editable Planner For Free. The Planner Includes A Gratitude Pad And Journaling Pages. Also A 12 Month Fillable Calendar.

Changing To A Growth Mindset

Change is inevitable. You go through many transitions as you advance in life. There are some changes that you cannot control, for example, aging; we are getting older by the minute. Other changes are completely under your control. A good example is your financial situation. By learning to control your thoughts, you can control your bank account. You have to go through different transitions before this is possible. Changing to a growth mindset take time, but it is worth it.

If you are happy with your current situation, whether that be financial, spiritual, or just life in general; great. God bless you and keep doing what you’re doing. If not, then you will have to go through transitions to a growth mindset to change. I have gone through many transitions in my life. They all have one thing in common. See if you can figure out what that is.

High School

I enjoyed my high school years. I was a popular student, part of athletic teams, and even was elected as a class officer. As good as those years were, I had to transition when I became a college student. Mentally, I had to destroy my high school life. I had to hang up my letter jacket and become a college student.

College

After graduating from college, I became an officer in the U.S. Army. Once again, I had to transition from a college student to an Army officer. I stored my college life in my mind and immersed myself as a soldier.

definition-growth-mindset-man-pushups-track-kettlebells
Lots and Lots Of Pushups

Military Service

After leaving the Army, I became a Special Agent with DEA. For me to become the best investigator I could be, I mentally left the soldier behind. I grew my hair long and stopped wearing military clothing. DEA was about conducting narcotics investigations and going undercover.

DEA

Many agents never accomplished this. They kept the military haircut and clothing. A lot ended up in training because it was like the Army. It was their comfort zone, and they didn’t want to leave it. They weren’t willing to destroy their old self and transition to a new one.

Finally, Retirement

After 30 years, I had to make another transition into retirement. It was difficult, as I had to leave my career behind. My career was my identity. The thing I missed was the daily social interaction and the excitement. I knew that I would have to put my DEA life in the memory bank and move on.

I transitioned my mindset to that of a businessman and opened businesses. My DEA self was destroyed and that life became a memory. People ask if I miss it; my reply is always; no. Like all the other times I changed, they were great while they were happening, and I’ll always have fond memories. To grow, I had to move forward.

Destroy Your Old Mindset

If you want to have a better life, you must destroy your old mindset. You will go through transitions to a growth mindset. It will be necessary to immerse yourself in your new life. Your old life might have been okay, but you will need to give up your old habits completely.

Change Is Not Easy

Beginning to transition to a growth mindset isn’t easy. Your brain is wired for survival and will do everything to keep you in your comfort zone. It will always resist change. For this reason, the transition takes time. I know no one wants to hear that because we live in a fast-food society. You are used to getting your food right away or ordering from Amazon and getting what you ordered the next day.

These transitions to a growth mindset will require you to do a self-analysis. I wrote a post about negative traits which will stop you from growing. Look at yourself and see if you are holding on to any negative habits. One negative habit that will sabotage your efforts is gossip. Stop talking about other people.

Grow

Understanding the definition of a growth mindset will help you improve. To grow, you must transition from a poverty mindset to a mindset of abundance. You know you have a poverty mindset when you’re thinking about the negative things in your life. For example, your primary thoughts are your debt, toxic relationship, or life situation.

To achieve a mindset of abundance, you will go through the process of change.

You will make a decision and commit to it.

See yourself as who you want to be, not as who you are.

Speak positive affirmations daily.

If you have negative thoughts, immediately begin speaking and thinking the opposite.

Don’t expect immediate change.

After time you will see the transitions in your daily life.

You will begin believing in your new life.

Your belief will turn into faith.

You will never quit.

15 Habits Of The Wealthy

What is wealth? Wealth is an abundance of valuable material possessions or resources. Wealth is subjective. What you consider wealth could be different from what I do. Is it a certain amount of money? For some, the answer is yes. For me, I relate wealth to being financially independent.

Financial independence means the following three things in my mind. First, it means time. You no longer trade time for money. You can now spend more time doing the things you love. We all have the same amount of time each day, 1440 minutes. How do you spend yours? Second, it creates options. You are no longer limited to doing things based on price. Eat at the most expensive restaurants and order what you want. Finally, financial independence means peace. Unexpected situations will arise in life. If money is not a problem, these situations are easier to manage.

Wealth Mindset

What is the difference between people with wealth and others? It comes down to one thing, your mindset. Do you have a wealth mindset or a poverty mindset? Begin to cultivate a money mindset. To do that, you must change and become a different person. You have to leave the old you behind. Create thoughts seeing how you want to live in the future. Visualize these thoughts. Your thoughts will become your reality. Eliminate negativity from your life and create new habits.

10 Quotes On Planning For Success

I am continuing to talk about the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Today I will discuss the sixth step, organize planning. It is through organized planning that you turn your desire into action. By setting up solid plans for your future, you will be able to turn your dreams into reality. I have also included 10 quotes about planning for success to help you understand the importance of a good plan.

Quotes On Planning For Success

Now that you have your desire or definite purpose, you want to tap into your imagination to help create your plan for the future. I discussed in last week’s post, imagination can be thought of as your workshop where your plans are created and organized. I have also talked about in previous posts, the six steps for turning your thoughts into reality. The formation of practical plans is one of the steps. Some good tips on planning for success are:

  • Find a group of like-minded individuals to help you create your plan;
  • Decide what form of compensation that you will trade for their help;
  • Meet with the group at least twice a week;
  • Maintain perfect harmony between yourself and every member of your group.

Master Mind Group

This group of like-minded individuals is what is known as a “Master Mind” group. It can consist of as many people as you may need. One person might suffice, or you might need many more to tap into their “specialized knowledge.” Let’s face it, it is difficult to accomplish anything alone. We don’t have all the knowledge necessary to create our plans for the future.

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”
~ Pablo Picasso

“Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.”
~ Tom Landry

Everything begins in the mind as a thought. It will take a solid, practical plan to transform that thought into an actual physical item, such as money. Once you have your plan, go to work. Do something every day and continue to take advice from your “Master Mind” group.

“It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt, the former first lady of the United States

“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.” ― John F. Kennedy, former U.S. President

“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” — Warren Buffett, investor

Planning and Failing

Your first plan might not be your best plan, and you find it doesn’t work. No worries, most first plans fail. Henry Ford built two automobile businesses that failed before he started the Ford Motor Company. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. If you fail, go back and redo your plan and try again. Keep reworking your plan until you find one that works.

“Always plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.” ― Richard Cushing, American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church

“Few people have any next, they live from hand to mouth without a plan, and are always at the end of their line.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson, poet, and essayist

“Every minute you spend in planning saves 10 minutes in execution; this gives you a 1,000 percent return on energy!” ― Brian Tracy, author, and motivational speaker

Why Plan?

Working on your plan will help prevent procrastination, self-doubt, and anxiety. As you continue to work on your plan you will build belief in yourself and your plan for the future. As your belief turns to faith, then nothing can stop you.

“Plans are nothing; planning is everything.” ― Dwight D. Eisenhower, former U.S. President

“The more time you spend contemplating what you should have done… you lose valuable time planning what you can and will do.” ― Lil Wayne, rapper

10 Ignore Negativity Quotes

I would like to eliminate all negativity in my life. Unfortunately, that is not possible and might not be possible for you. Therefore, you have to learn to ignore negativity you cannot eliminate.

“Negative people can only infest you with discouragements when they find you around. Just get lost and be saved.”
~ Israelmore Ayivor

What I’m talking about here is negativity that comes from family or coworkers. You might find that you cannot cut these people out of your life. You have to keep seeing them, and when you do, they will spread their negativity around you. Ignore negativity coming from these people. I have included 10 ignore negativity quotes to help you.

5 Tips To Ignore Negativity

You can use these 10 ignore negativity quotes to help you live a more positive life. Negativity in your life will hold you back and keep you from reaching your full potential. Your life will improve once you learn to eliminate or ignore negativity. Here are five tips to ignore negativity.

  1. Turn off your television and phone.
  2. Identify and cut loose toxic relationships.
  3. De-clutter your life.
  4. Exercise daily.
  5. Focus on you.

Turn Them Off!

For me, the vast majority of negativity in my life came from the television and phone. Media and social media inundated my life with negativity constantly. I stopped watching the news and became selective of what shows I watched. I did the same thing with social media. Becoming selective about which platforms I use helped me tremendously.

“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”
~ Mahatma Gandhi

“The best way of removing negativity is to laugh and be joyous.”
~ David Icke

Like many people, you might not want to eliminate watching the news as I did. If it is negatively affecting you, watch it to be informed but ignore the negative opinions/agendas. The same can be done for social media. Ignore the platforms or posts that tend to spread negativity.

Toxicity

Everyone has people in their life that they can do without. If you have someone at home or work you consider to be toxic, cut them loose. If you can’t cut them loose, learn to ignore their toxicity. Understand what they are doing and how it is affecting you. Immediately after interacting with this type of person, do something positive.

“If you accept the expectations of others, especially negative ones, then you never will change the outcome.”
~ Michael Jordan

“However vast the darkness, we must supply it with our own light.”
~ Stanley Kubrick

Get Rid Of It

My life can get very cluttered and I spend too much time on negative things. Do you find your life is the same? Periodically I like to take a look at my life and de-clutter it. I throw out whatever isn’t helping me grow as a person. If it isn’t something positive, I don’t need it, and out it goes. You will want to eliminate or ignore these things that are cluttering up your life. Doesn’t it feel great when you’ve gotten rid of clutter?

“You can’t think away your self-defeating thoughts; you have to dissolve them through action.”
 ~ Marty Rubin

“There are some people who always seem angry and continuously look for conflict. Walk away; the battle they are fighting isn’t with you, it is with themselves.”
~ Anonymous

Excercise

One of my favorite things to do to reduce negativity is exercise. I exercise daily; while doing so, I think about positive situations. The negative stuff is not allowed in my mind. Set small goals during your workout. Reward yourself as you hit these small goals. While exercising, listen to music that makes you happy. Get back to nature and take a walk/jog outside. Being outdoors, soaking up the sunshine, and breathing fresh air is very positive.

“I’ll always use the negativity as more motivation to work even harder and become even stronger.”
~ Tim Tebow

“Nobody can motivate himself in a positive direction by continually using negative words.”
 ~ John C. Maxwell

Me Time

In addition to daily exercise, another way I ignore negativity is to set aside time for myself every day. I do this early in the morning; it starts my day off right. Take some time for yourself. Go to a quiet room where you are alone in a positive environment. Control your thoughts and only think positive as you meditate. Fill your lungs as you slowly breathe in and out. Get into a relaxed state and speak positive affirmations. The negative will melt away.

“There are so many great things in life; why dwell on negativity?”
~ Zendaya

Good leaders are few and far between. Many people are referred to as leaders yet exhibit no qualities of a good leader.

The supreme quality of leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.

Good Leader Qualities

You can be called a leader, but holding a title does not necessarily make you a good leader. A good leader is someone people will follow. They will perform above their abilities for that leader. Good leaders get subordinates to be better than their skill level. They build belief in people. If subordinates believe in their leader, they will begin to believe in their selves. Below are five qualities of a good leader.

  1. Humility
  2. Integrity
  3. Intelligence
  4. Innovation
  5. Decisive

The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.
~ Ronald Reagan

Good Leaders Are Humble

One of the first things I was taught, when I was training to be a military officer was to be humble. You have to take care of the troops. A good leader ensures that they take care of their subordinates. When addressing subordinates outside, the leader should always face the sun. A good leader is always first to arrive and the last to leave. They make sure all the subordinates’ needs are taken care of. Then they can take care of themselves.

Being a good listener is absolutely critical to being a good leader; you have to listen to the people who are on the front line.
~ Richard Branson

Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right thing.
~ Peter F. Drucker

Honesty

Another quality of a good leader is honesty and integrity. Lead by example and always do the right thing. The good leader stands up for what they believe. Telling the truth, no matter how dire the situation is, is paramount. I had a great leader tell me once, “Bad news never gets better with age.”

Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or conclude you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.
~ Colin Powell

Educate

All good leaders are intelligent. They continue to read and educate themselves. Leaders are readers, and readers are leaders. A good leader develops his/her subordinates. They make sure the subordinates are prepared for the job, mission, etc. Even though it might be easier to perform a task themselves, they will delegate parts of the task to others. The delegation of tasks will develop leadership in others.

If you want to improve the organization, you have to improve yourself, and the organization gets pulled up with you.
~ Indra Nooyi

Thinkers

Good leaders are innovative; they think outside the box. They keep an open mind and are always welcome to new ideas. The old ways of accomplishing the mission are not necessarily the best. They understand this concept. Leaders actively listen to everyone on their team.

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.
~ Jack Welch

Never Waver

A good leader is always decisive. They never want to leave their team in limbo. They always make a decision even if it’s not a popular choice. Leaders listen to different ideas from their team and then make the final decision. The decision is always based on what is best for the group as a whole. Not all decisions are the right ones. If their decision was wrong and they take responsibility. They regroup, reevaluate, and make another decision. They always learn from their failures.

Great leaders can see the greatness in others when they can’t see it themselves and lead them to their highest potential they don’t even know.
~ Roy T. Bennett

Tips And Quotes For Self-Improvement

The five things to change are:

  • Your Words
  • What You Talk about
  • Your Money
  • Begin Writing
  • Time

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
~ Jane Goodall

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”
~ Albert Einstein

Listen To Yourself

Begin a habit of listening to the words that you are using daily. By analyzing the words you use to describe yourself or your actions you will be able to find the words that are holding you back. Do you say the phrase, “I need to,” frequently? If so, eliminate that phrase and replace it with, “I will.” The phrase, “I need to,” tells your brain that is something unimportant to you. It is something that you will never get around to doing. Saying, “I will eat healthier,” put your brain in action mode. You will then start looking at ways to eat healthier.

“Stay afraid but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.”
~ Carrie Fisher

“Don’t go through life, grow through life.”
~ Eric Butterworth

Gossip

Another habit to develop is to take note of what you talk about. A large culprit that holds people back from improving themselves is gossip. Eliminate talking about other people from your subjects of conversation. Focus more on yourself and how to achieve the success you are looking for. Always remember that unsuccessful people talk about other people; successful people talk about ideas.

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.”
~ Amelia Earhart

“People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”
~ Rob Siltanen

Where Is It Going?

Begin to pay attention to your money. Where is it going? Take time to go over your expenditures and see where your money ends up. Are you spending or investing? Many people will spend $100 on a night out without blinking an eye but will not spend the same amount on a self-improvement course. One is an expenditure and you will never see that money again. The other is an investment and can return that money to you tenfold. Expenditures will make other people wealthy while investments will make you wealthy.

Write

Begin writing. Write down everything you want to obtain in the next year. Put an end date on them and turn them into your goals. Keep journals around your home or office in which you can write your goals, thoughts, ideas, etc.  Writing things down helps you to focus on what is important to you. It also helps you remember. A scientific study has shown that after two weeks you remember:

10% of what you read;

20% of what you hear;

30% of what you see;

50% of what you hear and see;

70% of what you say and write; and

90% of what you practice by doing.

“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.”
~ Abraham Maslow

“The swiftest way to triple your success is to double your investment in personal development.”
~ Robin Sharma

Time

Finally, evaluate how you spend your time. You want to maximize your time. Learn to do the most work in the least amount of time. By evaluating and analyzing how you spend your time, you will be able to see when you are most productive. You don’t necessarily need to work 20 hours a day, especially if those hours are not productive. You should maximize your most productive time. For me, I know my most productive time is in the morning. Therefore, I get up very early in the morning and do the most I can before the afternoon. In the afternoon, my energy levels decrease and my brain gets foggy. I try to schedule most nonproductive events, i.e. doctors’ appointments, etc. in the afternoon. Find your most productive time and get the most out of the 1440 minutes you have every day.

“We can’t become what we need to be by remaining what we are.”
~ Oprah Winfrey

“Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.”
~ Bernice Johnson Reagon

These are just a few self-improvement quotes and tips that will help you become the person others want to be. Do you have any other changes to help people for next year? If so, leave a comment and let me know what they are. I hope that everyone that is looking to make a change will make that decision, commit to their decision, and put it all into action.
