Understanding The Law Of Attraction

Understanding the Law of Attraction is simple, you reap what you sow. Think about a wonderful life and you will live a wonderful life. It’s what you do behind the scenes. Who are you when no one is watching? They say that great people become great behind the scenes. Their greatness is made when no one is watching.

One of my favorite stories to illustrate this point is an interview with Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young. Steve said that the day after they won the Super Bowl he went to the stadium early in the morning to clean out his locker. He didn’t think anyone would be at the facility but as he was leaving he noticed some movement out on the field. He walked down to the field and looked out. To his disbelief, there was Jerry Rice, the Super Bowl MVP, running wind sprints. Most players took time off to recover from the grueling season and celebrate their championship. Not Jerry, he had already begun training for the next season by himself. That’s what made him one of the greatest players of all time.

My wife and I have been together for 30 years and are happier than ever. Here are some tips on how we keep our relationship fresh and exciting. Get your FREE Relationship Tips Today!

Do You Understand The Law Of Attraction

What are you saying to yourself when no one’s around? What thoughts go through your head? In understanding the Law of Attraction, there’s a fine line between the word you’re saying in the thoughts that you are having. You must make sure that your thoughts and words are in alignment. Sometimes we say positive words but think the opposite. The law of attraction says that we will attract exactly what we are thinking about. Our words become our thoughts and our thoughts become our actions. It is through these actions that we acquire change.

20, 000 Words

Each of us speaks 20,000 words a day. Therefore, we must be speaking the right words. Have you ever listened to what you are saying? What is your response to someone who asks, “How are you?” Do you respond with how you are feeling or how you want to feel? Is your response negative or positive? A negative response is, “I’m not feeling very well, I think I’m coming down with something.” A positive response is, “I’m feeling good today.” I always have the same response no matter how I feel. My response is always, “Great!”

When you say something, whether it be to someone or you just think it to yourself, always say what you want. Think about what you are saying and make sure that you are not inadvertently attracting something that you don’t want. Your words should not be based on your current situation but on how you want to be in the future. Analyze your words and make sure that you are not telling people what your current reality is. Tell them what your future reality will be.

Focus On Your Future

It is very common when people began speaking positive affirmations that they focus on their current situation. Because we all have a lack of belief, in the beginning, our thoughts will be different than the words we are speaking. You can be saying, “I am wealthy,” but as you are saying it you are thinking about all the bills that you have. Your predominant thought is of debt and not wealth. That is what you will attract. By consistently practicing positive affirmations every day you will eventually change your predominant thought to wealth. Your belief will grow as your thoughts come in line with your words.

Attract What You Want

Understanding the Law of Attraction means that you attract whatever it is you think. Our thoughts from the past have created our reality of today. Our thoughts today will create our reality in the future. I don’t like it when people who teach the law of attraction referred to it as “magical” or “woo woo.” There is nothing magical about it. You will not manifest piles of money just by saying and thinking you have piles of money. Your words and thoughts will lead to actions. Action = change.

Action

If you want to change your situation you cannot do it through words or thoughts alone. Without action, nothing is gonna happen. It is through your actions that you will manifest your new reality. Your words and thoughts can lead you to meet someone who could change your life. But, if you don’t talk to that person or do what the person recommends, nothing will change. You have to put everything into action.

Who Are You?

So think about that question, “Who are you when no one’s watching?” People tend to say the right things in the right company. What are you saying when you are alone? What are you thinking throughout the day? Make sure that your words and your thoughts are in alignment. If not you could be inadvertently sabotaging your law of attraction. Once everything’s in alignment, make sure that you are putting in the work to become the person you want to be. Go out and get the lifestyle you want to have.

The Importance Of Self-Discipline And Motivation

When you decide to change you will need help along your journey. You can find this help from extrinsic motivation or through self-discipline. I know people who listen to motivational speeches every day. In contrast, I know people who don’t believe in motivational speeches and both are successful. The importance of self-discipline and motivation cannot be understated. Therefore, the question is which is better, motivation or self-discipline?

Now That You Have Made The Decision To Begin Your Journey To Self-Improvement These Courses Will Propel You To Success!

The Difference Between Self-Discipline And Motivation

Motivation from other people is short-term. It is like eating a candy bar for energy. The sugar will get you started but it will not sustain you. Listening to a good motivational speech will get your adrenaline pumping. You feel like you can conquer the world.

Listening to motivational speeches over time will produce less adrenaline and the impact the speech has on you is not as great. You might find that after the speeches over you quickly lose the energy it gave you. In the short term, a motivational speech will have you believe. Over the long term, you can lose that belief. A motivational speech doesn’t build faith.

Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is long-term and you will find that it will sustain your efforts towards accomplishing your goals. If motivation is like a candy bar, self-discipline is the healthy food that gives you energy all day. It is doing those activities you know you are supposed to be doing.

Self-discipline doesn’t wear down or fade. It doesn’t affect producing adrenaline. Self-discipline will still give you that feeling that you can conquer the world only not through chemistry. The feeling comes through belief in yourself. Self-discipline conquers fears and doubts demons. It stretches your comfort zone and turns belief into faith.

Which Is Better?

Which is better, motivation or self-discipline? The answer is both. You wouldn’t want to rely on extrinsic motivation alone but a good speech is a great way to start your day. Think of it as a cup of coffee. It will get you going in the morning but the effect will wear off over time. If you are self-disciplined you will create your motivation. The scientific study below will show you the importance of self-discipline and motivation.

importance=self-discipline-motivation-man-running-trail-cliff

Gro Jordalen from the Norwegian School of Sports Sciences studied the correlation between motivation and self-discipline in athletes. She determined that elite athletes rely on both. Her studies showed that strong self-discipline influences how motivated you are. She also found that extrinsic motivation will lead to greater burnout.

In short, motivation will get you going but you will need the self-discipline to accomplish your goals. Developing self-discipline is necessary for your journey to change. It is great to hear someone tell you that you can become a different person. It is only through the development of self-discipline that the change will happen. To be successful, both motivation and self-discipline are needed.

How Can You Develop Self-Discipline?

How can you develop self-discipline? Keeping things simple and taking baby steps. When I was younger and wanted to get back in shape, I would listen to a motivational song and get fired up. I would then take off running at a hard pace. I wouldn’t last long at that pace and would soon be struggling. The extrinsic motivation of the song had faded. I tried to do too much too soon. I learned to take baby steps.

Deciding to become a different person is a huge change. Our brains are wired to prevent such changes and you will incur resistance. Therefore, don’t try to make a big change all at once. Change small things about your routine. Wake up a half-hour earlier than normal instead of three hours earlier. Plan out your day instead of trying to plan out the entire month. Make little stretches in your comfort zone.

Small Changes Lead To Big Results

The importance of self-discipline and motivation is huge in your journey. Making small changes to your daily routine will lead to big changes to your lifestyle over time. This time next year you will be a completely different person and not even realize how you got there. A little self-analysis will show how these little changes developed your self-discipline. You are now a truly motivated person.

Habits Of The Rich

What is wealth? It is defined as an abundance of valuable material possessions or resources. Wealth is subjective. What you consider wealth could be different from what I do. Is it a certain amount of money? For some, the answer is yes. For me, I relate wealth to being financially independent.

Financial independence means the following three things in my mind. First, it means time. You no longer trade time for money. You can now spend more time doing things you love. We all have the same amount of time each day, 1440 minutes. How do you spend yours? Second, it creates options. You are no longer limited to doing things based on price. Eat at the most expensive restaurants and order what you want. Finally, financial independence means peace. Unexpected situations will arise in life. If money is not a problem these situations are easier to deal with.

What is the difference between people with wealth and others? It comes down to one thing, your mindset. Do you have a wealth mindset or a poverty mindset? Begin to cultivate a money mindset. To do that, you must change and become a different person. You have to leave the old you behind. Create thoughts seeing how you want to live in the future. Visualize these thoughts. Your thoughts will become your reality. Eliminate negativity from your life and create new habits.

Episode 24: Finding Confidence Within You

In Episode 24: Finding Confidence Within You, I show you how I found my confidence and it changed my life. If you knew me early on in my life, you might’ve got the impression that I was a noticeably confident individual. I looked confident on the outside because I was athletic, smart, and always had lots of friends.
What you wouldn’t have seen was the true person of who I really was, a person that was not confident on the inside.

Are You Struggling With Self-Confidence? I Have Created A Course To Help You Find Yours!

Episode 24: Finding Confidence Within You

My extreme fear of heights meant I had to make up excuses whenever my friends wanted to jump off a high dive platform. I couldn’t even go on roller coasters. Even though I was selected for athletic teams, I never thought I deserved to be on the team. Inside I felt as though I wasn’t good enough and that everyone else was a better player. I was always surprised and thankful that I was even a part of the team.

It Was There All Along

After everything I had accomplished in my life, I had no reason to think that way. It took me being diagnosed with cancer before I really to a look at my life and became confident. Here are some of the things that I began to do change. I:

  • Looked at ALL the successes I had had throughout my life;
  • Stopped having unrealistic expectations of myself;
  • Started reading more books;
  • Changed the way I thought about myself;
  • Started speaking about the confident person I was;
  • Stopped caring about what others said or thought about me;
  • Stopped taking everything personally.

Let’s Do Something Special Together In 2021!

The Best You

Do you struggle with self-confidence? Are you a different person on the outside than you are on the inside? As humans, we are all unique and we have to see the real person who we are. We are defined only by the words we tell ourselves, not by other people’s words. Tell yourself every day that you are a confident, strong person. Look at all the successes you have had in your life and don’t compare them with others. All victories, no matter how large or small, are victories. Celebrate every one of them. Every day go be the best person that you can be on that day. Life is life and some days are simply better than others. Some days I accomplish a lot, other days not so much, but every day I’m the best me. Go be the best you.

Quotes On Focusing On Yourself

Hello everyone! Today I give you some inspirational quotes on focusing on yourself. Don’t forget to like, comment, and follow. Get my monthly newsletters by subscribing below and support my blog by clicking on my links and purchasing from Amazon.

Join My Team!

Several months ago when I started my blog I wrote a post titled, It’s Not About Me, It’s About You. The purpose of that post was to say to become successful we need to serve others. Some people need the gifts that you have. People need to read the content that you’re writing. It might make them smile, be the bit of inspiration they’re looking for, or provide some information that helps them out. Taking your eyes off yourself and helping others will help you persevere. People are counting on you.

“I think self-knowledge is a key to happiness. We can build happy lives only on the foundation of our own natures, our own values and our own interests.” – Gretchen Rubin

Quotes On Focusing On Yourself

Now I’m going to switch it up a little bit. I want you to focus on yourself. The reason for this is, you can’t fully serve someone else if you don’t completely like the person you are. Your priority is to fix yourself and be happy with who you are. I believe we are all good people deep down inside. We are all different people so don’t compare yourself with others. There is no comparison to you.

“The only one you should compare yourself to is you. Your mission is to become better today than you were yesterday. You do that by focusing on what you can do today to improve and grow.” – John Maxwell

How many of you have watched a commercial and wanted to be like the “perfect” people in the ad? Advertisers use these “perfect” people because they want you to compare yourself with them. By doing so, you feel inferior and want to do something about it. Therefore, you spend money on their products to become the person in the advertisement. That’s just not going to happen.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw

“Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self-respect leads to self-discipline. When you have both firmly under your belt, that’s real power.” – Clint Eastwood

You Are Unique

You can’t compare yourself with anyone because you are unique. Take a moment and look at your fingerprints. No one has the same fingerprints as you. Even though there are 7.8 billion people in the world, no two people have the same fingerprints. Our bodies are made up of DNA and these genetic markers are responsible for you looking the way you do. Our DNA comes from the beginning of time. Your unique DNA is a mixture of everyone in your bloodline. According to my DNA results, I am 1.64% Nigerian. This comes from one of my ancestors who lived approximately 50,000 years ago.

“Stop feeling sorry for yourself and you will be happy.” – Stephen Fry

“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment.” – Lao Tzu

I was one of those people who always compared himself to others and wanted to be one of these “perfect” people. I never liked my body type even when I was in perfect shape. My looks were something I always wanted to change despite the compliments that I was given. One of the things that I despised was my voice. I put off starting a podcast for this very same reason. The other day I had a fellow blogger comment that she enjoyed listening to my voice on my podcasts. We just don’t see ourselves or hear ourselves as others do.

“Your life is the fruit of your own doing. You have no one to blame but yourself.” – Joseph Campbell

Fall In Love

Today, go ahead and look in the mirror because I want you to fall in love with the person that you see. The person looking back at you is the “perfect” person because they are the best they can be at that time. You can’t fully serve others or attract others if you don’t like the person that you are. Once you begin to love yourself, you will begin to attract more people to you. There is an old saying, “If you want to fix the world, begin by fixing you.”

“The more you are like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.” – Walt Disney

You Are Beautiful

You are a beautiful person just the way you are today. We are all created for greatness no matter your size, facial features, or your muscle tone. If you want to change something about yourself to better your health, give you more confidence, or whatever reason, I say, go do it. But first, fall in love with the original you. If you’re not in love with the way you were created, you will always be looking for flaws. When you fix one thing another flaw will come to your attention. You will always be chasing perfection because you never loved the original you.

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” – Muhammad Ali

Positive Affirmations

So how can you begin to love the person that you are right now, today? Well, your perception of who you are today is based on your words and thoughts of the past. Since the invention of television, we have been subjected to years of being told we are inferior. So you have to change those thoughts in the way you see yourself. Start today by looking in the mirror and telling yourself, “I love you.” Here are some positive affirmations to help you.

  • I love myself

  • I am joyous, happy, and free

  • I am my own person

  • I am totally healthy

  • I am willing to release the thoughts in me that created these conditions

  • I deserve the best and accept it now

  • I am in the process of positive change

  • I appreciate everything that I do

  • I approve of myself the way that I am

  • I experience love and kindness wherever I go

These are a few examples, I encourage you to change them and come up with new ones to fit you. By repeating these several times a day, over time you will notice a change in the way you look, feel, and act.

You can find several books on positive affirmations. One that I just finished and can recommend is You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. It is a wonderful book about changing your life through positive affirmations. I have added a link to the book on the side or bottom of my webpage.

“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
– Buddha

Follow Your Dream Inspirational Quotes

Imagine how your life would change if your annual income became your monthly income. What would your life look like? How would that change you as a person? Would you be able to live the lifestyle of your dreams? We all dream and we start when we are very young. Some people dream of buying a certain car, house, or boat. Others dream of travel and giving to help others. Dreaming doesn’t stop just because we get older. I’m 60 and I still dream. For me, dreams are possibilities. As long as I’m breathing I will continue to work to turn them into realities. These, follow your dream inspirational quotes, help me to accomplish just that.

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”
~ Anatole France

“If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.”
~ Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Follow Your Dream Inspirational Quotes

Do you believe you could turn your annual income into your monthly income? I believe it can happen. Many people do just that. These are people who never gave up on their dreams. They never let anyone steal their dreams from them. Through hard work in developing the right mindset, they succeeded. They see things in terms of possibilities rather than obstacles. Failure is not an option and passion drives them. Perseverance is something they do on a daily basis.

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”
~ Alice Walker

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you have imagined.”
~ Henry David Thoreau

You begin dreaming when you’re young and naïve about the world. You believe that everything is possible. Children dream about what occupation they are going to have when they grow up. It seems the children are anxious to grow up. They are just reacting to the stimuli around them.

follow-your-dreams-superheroes
Dream

Children

Children incorporate their dreams into their play. They pretend to be the occupations of their parents or what they see on TV. Children dream about being heroes. They dress up and pretend that they are saving the world. Their dreams allow them to travel to outer space and faraway lands.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
~ George Eliot

“Dream big and dare to fail.”
~ Norman Vaughan

As you become older the dreams are still happening inside your mind. When you reach your teenage years you stop playing pretend. You think and dream about what you’re going to become in a few years. Only now, it’s more grounded in the realities of your current situation. Your dreams also stay with you. You keep them to yourselves because of fear of criticism. I love this, follow your dream inspirational quote, by Shonda Rhimes.

“Dreams are lovely. But they are just dreams. Fleeting, ephemeral, pretty. But dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It’s hard work that makes things happen. It’s hard work that creates change.”
~ Shonda Rhimes

What Happened?

Whatever happens to all our dreams we have when we are young? Most people never live out their dreams. Your dreams do not get up and leave on their own. You don’t accidentally leave them someplace never to be found again. Your dreams are stolen from you. You are told by parents, teachers, and others to quit daydreaming and pay attention. Don’t live with your head in the clouds.

“Limitations live only in our minds.  But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.”
~ Jamie Paolinetti

These words have a significant impact on you. They lead you to forget about the dreams you have and the life you want to lead. They steal your dreams. As you enter adulthood you might want to start a business. You dream of your office at the top of the building with your name on it. You see yourself running this large corporation.

The Reason, Not The Excuse

Don’t Let Life Stop You

What happened? Why didn’t you pursue it? Many times the answer is, life just got in the way. So you settle into your crummy job making somebody else lots of money. You don’t believe that it can truly happen. You are told many times that these are just dreams and they’re not real. Your mind believe that and turned it into a reality. That became your mindset.

When you get married and have children, you perpetuate this vicious cycle. Your parents stole your dreams and now you still your children’s dreams. They will in turn still their children’s dreams. This will continue until someone changes their mindset. You can break this cycle, hold onto your dream, and make it your reality.

“The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it.”
~ Kalpana Chawla

“Our dreams are what truly matter, we only have one life and we should live it to the fullest.”
~ Madeline Stuart

Me

Me, I have done all of the above. It was a normal day for me growing up to be dreaming of space travel and saving the world. My parents and teachers told me continuously to stop daydreaming. I thought I was doing something wrong and in their eyes I was. I have lied to my children by telling them that they shouldn’t, “put all your eggs in one basket.” “Always have something to fall back on.” These are horrible suggestions.

Several of my dreams did come true and my life turned out much as I imagined. No, I didn’t become an astronaut, a superhero, or save the world. I did travel to foreign lands, have adventures, and solve mysteries. These were some of the things I dreamt about. These are pretty small dreams compared to others. For example, Elon Musk and SpaceX, or Walt Disney and Disneyland. I wonder if I had bigger dreams, would life have made me forget them?

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”
~ Langston Hughes

“Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today.”
~ James Dean

How?

Can you turn your annual income into your monthly income? I believe you can, many people do just that. Your life in the next couple of years can be completely different than the life you’re living today. How can you make that happen?

  • Never Stop Dreaming!
  • Turn your dream into your definite purpose.
  • Develop a passion for achieving your dream.
  • Develop a plan to make it happen.
  • Set your goals.
  • Work diligently.
  • Overcome all obstacles.
  • Embrace your failures.
  • Persevere.
  • Never Quit!

Walt Disney was a struggling filmmaker who was forced to file bankruptcy. That same year he formed a new film company with a loan from his family. He then created the iconic character, Mickey Mouse. Henry Ford filed for bankruptcy twice. He refused to allow this to deter him. On his third try, he created the Ford Motor Company.

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting”
~ Paulo Coelho

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
~ C. S. Lewis

These are just two examples of many successful people who did not let life get in the way. They never let anyone steal or give up on their dreams. If you have dreams you want to accomplish it is never too late. Never let your family be your excuse for not following your dream. Make them your reason to turn your dream into your reality. Start today and make them happen.

Stopping Your Negative Thoughts

Stopping your negative thoughts takes work. Success is based on work. If you’re not willing to do the work you’re probably not going to have very good results. It all begins in the mind though; you have a thought about something that you would like to accomplish. You have to change your thought process.

Episode 6 – Stopping Your Negative Thoughts

You start off with a dream about being wealthy or losing weight and having a different body. How about living in a mansion instead of your studio apartment that’s worse than the apartment you lived in at college? Now that you have this dream; How are you going to go about turning it into a reality? If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you’ll know that HOW is not really important. WHY is the most important part of the equation.

Feed Your Dreams

Dreams, like grass, need to be nourished and watered. If your irrigation system is adjusted correctly then most of the water lands on your yard and nourishes your lawn. The grass grows healthy and full, chokes out all the weeds, and you have this lush green lawn that’s the envy of the neighborhood.

If you water your dreams with positive thoughts then they will grow, flourish, and choke out those pesky “Doubt Demons”. On the other hand, if you’re watering the street your lawn suffers and nothing grows. Grass does not grow on asphalt. If you’re constantly giving into negative thoughts you might as well be watering the street because nothing is going to grow.

Positive Affirmations

Begin a daily habit of affirmations. Write them down on an index card and carry it with you always. The first thing in the morning, read them several times. Throughout the day pull out your index card and read them over and over. You need to program your positive thoughts into your subconscious.

Just like you adjust your sprinklers to only water the grass, adjust your positive thoughts to water your dreams. They say you have to do something 10,000 times before you get really good at it. I’m no scientist but maybe that’s how long it takes before your subconscious mind takes over and you start doing and saying the right things without thinking about it.

Inspirational Quotes For Achieving Goals

Goals, who needs them? What are they and who uses them? How do we set them and do they work? I want to talk a little bit today about your goals. They are instrumental in your personal development. I’ve included some inspirational quotes that I hope will help you in achieving your goals.

“It’s harder to stay on top than it is to make the climb. Continue to seek new goals.”

Achieving Goals

Who writes down goals? Well, the best answer is, successful people. Did you know that 96% of all the wealth created in the world is created by 1% of the population? These are the people that are extremely successful in building businesses and making money. By comparison, I recently heard that only 1% of people write down their goals. One could deduct that the 1% who are writing down their goals are also the 1% creating 96% of the wealth. For example, in my post last week on becoming an expert, I listed some habits of successful people. One of those habits is that successful people are goal-oriented. Taking this all in, I think it’s time we started writing some goals.

“One way to keep momentum going is to have constantly greater goals.”
~ Michael Korda

What are goals? How do we decide what our goals are? Simply put, goals are just things that you want. Decide on some things that you want and write them down. Now you have some goals. For example, you might want more money, a bigger house, or fame. Maybe you want a better relationship or be in a relationship. Whatever you want, write it down.

Set’em

Stay On Course

Your goals can be described as a target that gives you something to aim at. Also, they can be thought of as your internal GPS. They keep you going in the right direction and not veering off course. They get you where you want to go. Another way to think of goals is to picture a plow horse. The farmer always puts blinders on the horse when they hook them up to the plow. The blinders are simply small squares of firm leather attached to the bridal at the side of the horse’s head. Since horse’s eyes are on the side of their head, they have peripheral vision. They can easily be distracted by something off to the side and stray off course. The blinders help the farmer to plow straight rows. They keep the horse on track, just like your goals.

“If you aim for nothing, you’ll hit it every time.”
~ Source unknown

“It’s important to set your own goals and work hard to achieve them.”
~ Yuichiro Miura

We have already established that goals are things that you want. They are your dreams. They need to be written down. Goals that are not written down are simply a wish. They will never be achieved. When setting goals, keep in mind that they should be big but also realistic. You have to convince your mind that your goal is attainable. An unattainable goal is worthless. For example, if my goal is to live on another planet, that is currently unattainable. I wouldn’t work very hard to attain that goal. Your goal needs to be big enough to scare you. It must make you grow in the process of making it come true.

The End Date

Goals must have an end date. By setting an end date, you will stay on track to accomplish your goal. It helps you do a little bit every day to keep moving forward. You will also be able to track your progress towards reaching your goal. For example, by December 31, 2020, I have earned $1,500,000 profit in my businesses. I can now see how close or far I am to my goal. This allows me to look at my plan and see if it’s working. I recommend people to set long-term goals, medium goals, and short-term goals. A long-term goal can be five or 10 years out. This is the main goal that we know will take some time to achieve. Our medium and short-term goals will keep us on track to achieving our long-term goals.

“You should set goals beyond your reach so you always have something to live for.”– Ted Turner

“The greater danger for most of us isn’t that our aim is too high and miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”
~ Michelangelo

Now we have decided on the things we want, written them down, and set an end date. Next, we need to read them every day. I prefer to write my goals on an index card and carry it in my pocket. This way I can read them wherever I am. Remember not to write down too many goals. You will keep getting distracted from obtaining your main goal. It is better to focus on one or two goals that will change you.

How Do We Achieve Our Goals

How are we going to accomplish our goals now that we have them written down? The most important question is not how, but WHY. Once you know WHY you will figure out how to turn your goals into reality. Just keep your eyes open and pay attention to your thoughts. They will open your mind up to all the possibilities in front of you. What happens when we reach our end date and we have been successful? One answer is to set bigger goals with a new end date. What if we fail to reach our goal? If you failed to reach your goal, then look at your plan and your work ethic. Possibly, you did not work hard enough or your plan was flawed. If this happens, change your plan. Don’t change your goal.

“In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily acts of trivia.”
~ Author Unknown

“Reach high, for stars lie hidden in you. Dream deep, for every dream, precedes the goal.”
~ Rabindranath Tagore

Methods

One method of staying on track with your goals is called, “The Seinfeld Method.” In this method, you get a large yearly calendar and hang it on a prominent wall. Establish your goal and your plan. Every day that you do something in your plan and work toward your goal, put a big red “X” on that date. The purpose is to establish a chain and never break the chain. Another method is to put two jars on your desk. One jar is filled with marbles, paperclips, etc., and the other is empty. Every time you do something towards accomplishing your goal, move the object to the empty jar. This is a great method for accomplishing daily goals. A lot of salespeople use this method when they have a goal of making X amount of sales calls a day.

Write’em Down

The Journey

What I become from the process is what I like most about setting goals and working towards obtaining them. Will you become a better person by focusing on your goals? What kind of person would you be after working on your plan? Like me, you will change. By focusing on your goals you will begin to get a direction in your life. It will give you a purpose and you will find you are better because of it. This to me is the most important aspect of goal setting, what you become.

“The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.”
~ Bill Copeland

“If you’re bored with life – you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals.”
~ Lou Holtz

15 Quotes To Live A Simpler Lifestyle.

Why do we complicate everything? We tend to complicate all things, especially those that are important, relationships, creating wealth, or getting healthy, pretty much anything. These 15 quotes will inspire you to a more simple lifestyle.

My grandmother could simplify anything. First, if you went outside and it was cold, go put on a jacket; next, if you went outside and got wet, you might need a raincoat; finally, if you want a relationship to last, don’t go to bed angry. She didn’t need a weather channel to explain the exact temperature, the heat index, or the chill factor, she just knew if it was hot or cold outside.

“Stay low, stay quiet, keep it simple, don’t expect too much, enjoy what you have.”
― Dean Koontz

“When simple is more than enough, you will feel happy more than enough!”
― Mehmet Murat ildan

Simple and great times

When I got my first car, the combustible engine was a fairly simple device. You can perform maintenance on your vehicle fairly easily and even repair or replace certain parts.

Nowadays you need a computer to fix a vehicle. I can remember those hot, humid summer nights in my grandfather’s garage working on his old car. The crickets would serenade us as we tried to wipe the sweat out of our eyes with greasy hands. I’m sad that my children didn’t get to experience those simple moments.

“Life is as simple as these three questions: What do I want? Why do I want it? And, how will I achieve it?”
― Shannon L. Alder

“A simple life gives birth to more clarity, inner peace and meaningful relationships.”
― Margo Vader

Not Us But It Brings Back Great Memories

You have to keep it simple in the jungle

Everything nowadays seems so complicated that we need to break it down into its simplest form in order to understand it.

“My choice of a lighter lifestyle has brought me a greater sense of well-being. In a world that often seems stressful and chaotic, that’s a feeling I cherish.”
― Lisa J. Shultz, Lighter Living: Declutter. Organize. Simplify.

When I was in the jungle, I carried the explosives we used to destroy the cocaine labs. Trying to understand the scientific facts of how explosives work can be complicated. You could waste a lot of time looking at formulas and trying to figure out the best locations to place the dynamite and C4 to obtain the most destructive power.

“Don’t make your life complicated. Adapt to every circumstance.”
― Lailah Gifty Akita, Think Great: Be Great!

“Well, all I need is the air I breathe and a place to rest my head.”
― OneRepublic, OneRepublic: Dreaming Out Loud

Boom!!

We didn’t have a lot of time to do that, so I learned in my training that the simple fact is that the energy caused by the explosion will always travel along the path of least resistance. Simply put, if you wanted the explosion to travel in a certain direction, we just had to pile rocks and other heavy objects against the charge on the side opposite of the direction you wanted the explosion to travel.

You don’t have to complicate things in order to obtain great results.

“As he thought of it, though, he could not imagine what “just living” might actually be. He had never done it in his life. But he wanted to do it anyway.”
― Orson Scott Card, Ender’s Game

Avoid “Paralysis by Analysis” by keeping it simple

“The simplest things are overlooked. And yet, it is the simplest things that are the most essential.”
― Thomas Lloyd Qualls, Painted Oxen

The character Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, when faced with a problem calls up his computer and several holographic computer screens appear in front of him. These screens are loaded down with a plethora of scientific data and it might take someone days to try to figure it out.

Tony Stark looks at all the data in front of him and immediately starts capturing a screen and swiping his hand to the side to eliminate it. He continues to do this until he is left with just one screen on which he finds a solution.

“I just want to live simply and pay attention to what’s happening each day.”
― Kent Haruf, Our Souls at Night

Break it down

He just simply broke everything down to its simplest form. That’s what we need to do to accomplish our goals, break down our plan to its simplest form. When we first start something, it can look so complicated that we don’t know where to start.

We then never commence to doing anything and our goal is left unfulfilled. This is called “Paralysis by Analysis.” We just get too much information, we over-analyze this information, and we never get started.

We never even take the first step. If you’re trying to do something and are frozen by fear or are having paralysis by analysis, break it down to its simplest form and just do it.

From complicated and frustrating to simple

“A simple life is not seeing how little we can get by with—that’s poverty—but how efficiently we can put first things first. . . . When you’re clear about your purpose and your priorities, you can painlessly discard whatever does not support these, whether it’s clutter in your cabinets or commitments on your calendar.”
― Victoria Moran, Lit From Within: Tending Your Soul For Lifelong Beauty

Here are some examples of how I break down different projects to their simplest form.

When I started my online businesses, I read books on different business opportunities and how to start them.

Then, I searched through YouTube for instructional videos and spoke with people who have started online businesses.

Do you get confused?

Quickly, I found out that there is an enormous amount of information on starting online businesses. Not everyone who creates an instructional video or writes a book agrees on how to be successful. I would watch one video and be told one thing, only to watch another video which contradicted everything I learned in the first video. Who could I trust? Did they really believe the information they were putting out, or were they snake oil salesman just trying to get my money.

This became overly complicated and filled me with anxiety so I began to break it down to its simplest form. If I wanted to succeed I had to ask myself the question, what do I need to do first?

I began and then moved on to what I needed to learn second and so on. I didn’t try to tackle everything in one day, I just did a little every day.

Another thing that I did to simplify everything was to pick just one mentor and learn from them.

My simplified exercise plan

“Escape from complicated life! Take refuge in simple life! You will find three treasures there: Healthy body, peaceful mind, and a life away from ambitious fools!”
― Mehmet Murat ildan

If you want to get healthy and have never exercised before, it can be very daunting to go to a gym and see all the different machines or take instruction from a personal trainer.

What I always tell people who want to start an exercise program is to do the simplest thing, start by walking. Walking is the simplest form of exercise, we do it every day, and it can be done anywhere.

The next step is to begin increasing your muscle tone by doing bodyweight exercises. You don’t need a gym to do these and they are a good way to build muscle prior to beginning weight training.

Push-ups are great exercises for building your upper body and hit a lot of different muscles. If you can’t do push-ups, try to do a push-up with your knees on the floor.

If you don’t have a lot of upper body strength yet, begin with incline push-ups or even stand up and do push-ups against the wall.

How we simplified weight loss in the “Good Ole Days”

In the past, whenever I needed to lose weight, I would see so many different weight loss books and diets that I would be overwhelmed. What I noticed about all the different weight loss programs out there is that they tell you to eat the same types of foods.

Simply put, if you want to drop some pounds, make sure your plate is mostly covered in vegetables.

On the most uncomplicated level food is made up of calories that provide us with energy. In order to drop some pounds, you must expend more calories than you take in. All the calories that you don’t expend will be stored as fat in your body.

Cut it in half

“He toasted his bacon on a fork and caught the drops of fat on his bread; then he put the rasher on his thick slice of bread, and cut off chunks with a clasp-knife, poured his tea into his saucer, and was happy.”
― D.H. Lawrence, Sons and Lovers

If you want to start losing weight, begin by only eating half your normal plate of food.

You can then start by replacing some of the food you are now eating with foods that are better for you. Remember that it is a marathon, not a sprint and you don’t have to lose all your weight in a short period of time.

The Murph Challenge

Back in February, I decided I wanted to increase my workouts and was looking for a challenge. My oldest daughter and I signed up for the Murph Challenge. The challenge consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another one mile run while wearing a 20-pound vest.

This looked impossible to me at first and I didn’t know how I was going to train for it. I simplified it by making a plan to complete a fraction of the challenge twice a week and then build on that until the day of the challenge. I knew I could do that. On Memorial Day, May 25th, we took on and conquered the challenge to remember and honor my family, friends, and everyone that has paid the ultimate sacrifice. #Murphchallenge.

Keep It Simple

You can accomplish anything that you set your mind to as long as you don’t get paralysis by analysis and never get started. In the military, we are taught early on the K.I.S.S. principle. That’s Keep It Simple St***D. Break it down to its simplest form, do it, and build on it until you succeed.

How do you simplify things in your life? Please leave a comment below and share them. I learn a lot from your comments If you have any questions or requests for topics I would love to hear them. I don’t claim to be an expert or professional therapist, I just play one on TV (some of you might actually get that joke).

The Wonderful Awesome Power of Music

Music is such a powerful instrument. It can invoke many different feelings inside us. It can make us feel happy, sad, or put us into deep thought. It can inspire us and even transport us back in time by bringing up a memory. It can get your heart beating fast and pumping adrenaline. It can put you in a very relaxed, calm state of mind. Tap into the wonderful awesome power of music.

I was working out this morning and I always listen to music while I exercise. I have a playlist in my phone of several upbeat songs that keep my adrenaline flowing throughout my workout. Today as I started my workout, the first song that came on was, It’s My Life by Bon Jovi. I got this overwhelming joyous feeling in my heart because the words of the song matched perfectly with my life. My life changed dramatically yesterday in a very good way and took all the success I’ve had in the past to a whole different level. I’ve heard the song probably a thousand times before but today I really listened to the words.

It’s my life

It is just that, my life. I am in total control of what happens in my life based on my reactions to circumstances that happen every day. You are in control of your life. Today many people allow other forces to control them. Many people are living in fear because of the pandemic and the information they are listening to. I choose faith and faith and fear cannot exist in the same place at the same time. Both faith and fear are a choice and you have to choose one or the other. Most of my neighbors can’t believe that my wife and I still go out to eat. They live in fear. Last night we drove to our favorite burger joint and had a great meal. We practiced social distancing, covered our faces, and went to the front door and ordered our meal. We went back to the car and a short time later; they brought our order out to us. We had a wonderful time sitting in the car enjoying our burgers and shakes. It reminded me of our first date almost 30 years ago. We went to a burger joint in Lima, Peru where they brought the food out to you and you ate it in the car. Tap into the wonderful awesome power of music.

It’s now or never
I ain’t gonna live forever

This is it; it is NOW! Now is the time to make that decision to change your life. I am rapidly approaching what is said to be the fourth quarter of life. I could just sit back and enjoy the next 20 or so years, but that isn’t me. I want to do so much.  I have so many people that I want to help. I want to increase my giving. I want to pass along these lessons to millions and millions of people. And the time is now, today, because just as it says in the lyrics; I ain’t gonna live forever, we are not promised any certain period of time. We are not promised tomorrow, so the time to make that decision to change, to help people, to live your dreams is NOW!

I just want to live while I’m alive (It’s my life)

Life is a beautiful thing. Get out there every day and live it like it’s your last. Dance like no one’s watching and sing like you have the voice of an angel. Do everything that you want to do. Try things that make you uncomfortable. We only have a finite number of days on this wonderful planet, make the most out of each one. Tap into the wonderful awesome power of music.

My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said I did it my way
I just want to live while I’m alive

Open your heart and follow it where it’s leading you. Be in tune with your inner feelings and listen to those little voices encouraging you to do something good. You always know what’s good because it will make you happy when you think about it. Listen to the words of Frankie and do it your way. Your way might not be the only way but it is the best way for you. Go out and live life now while you’re alive because afterward, it’s too late.

The next random song that came on from my playlist was Right Now by Van Halen. I don’t think there are two songs in my playlist that would have had a better impact on me. It just confirmed that all these great things are happening to me right now. I need to make the most of every day. Whenever I hear this song it takes me back to my days in the jungle. I used to carry a Sony Walkman cassette player and earphones as part of my equipment. We had open doors on the helicopters and I would always sit next to the door gunner. I would start playing this song right before the helicopter lifted off. Many times we would fly what the pilots call the “nape of the earth” which is just a few feet above the ground. They would fly right over the river and follow the curves at a very fast speed. It was exhilarating. When I hear the song I’m transported back inside the helicopter to a very happy time for me. We never knew what would happen when we arrived at our objective. Would it be an easy day or would they be waiting for us and we would have to fight our way out? I never felt more alive. Right Now makes me feel alive when I hear it and reminds me that right now is the time to get it done.

Tap into the wonderful awesome power of music. Whatever you want to accomplish, start right now. Don’t wait for the perfect day or time. Don’t wait for the pandemic to be over and COVID-19 to be wiped out.  Don’t wait for tomorrow or next week. Don’t wait until the end of the semester or when you get that big project finished at work. There is no better day than today, so go get it done. IT’S YOUR LIFE – go live it.

I appreciate every like, follow, comment and share. Keep’em coming.
