Sir Ernest Shackleton: An Inspiration

Episode 34: The Inspiring Sir Ernest Shackleton

I hope you enjoy episode 34 of my podcast, Sir Ernest Shackleton: An Inspiration. A few weeks ago I was reading the book, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It is one of my favorite books and I read it over and over. (You can purchase it from Amazon by clicking on the icon, hint hint, wink wink). In chapter 14, The Sixth Sense is about using your creative imagination. Hill created a mastermind group in his imagination. These were people that he admired, some alive and others long gone. They were people like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Abraham Lincoln. This got me thinking about people who inspire us.

Take Control Of Your Life! My Courses Will Start You On Your Journey To Self-Improvement.

Hill was inspired by his mastermind group and would even have roundtable council meetings in his mind. During these meetings, he would have imaginary conversations with the members. Each one had a different quality that he admired. By doing this, he opened up his creative mind and came up with ideas on things he could accomplish. I began thinking about different people who I admired and who have inspired me throughout my life. So I decided to write about these inspirational people. They are people who overcame obstacles and were great leaders. I have learned great lessons from them. They have set excellent and inspirational examples for me to follow.

An Inspirational Leader

I will begin with an incredible leader, Sir Ernest Shackleton. Shackleton was born in 1874 in Kildare, Ireland. He was an Antarctic explorer who attempted to reach the South Pole. He joined Robert Scott’s expedition in 1901 and took part in the sledge journey across the Ross Ice Shelf. In January 1908, he led an expedition to Antarctica but was prevented from reaching their intended based site by the ice. On that expedition, he later led a sledging party to within 112 miles (180 km) of the South Pole. Due to their success in claiming the Victoria Land plateau for Britain, he was knighted on his return.

I first heard of Ernest Shackleton when I was given a book titled Endurance. You can also get this book by clicking on the icon to the right. (Another wink). The book, written by Alfred Lansing, is well written and inspirational. It entails the 1914 ill-fated expedition to Antarctica led by Shackleton. They proceeded from England aboard the ship, Endurance. The expedition had planned to make the first crossing of Antarctica. They would travel via the South Pole from the Weddell Sea to McMurdo Sound.

Endurance

Trapped

The Endurance became trapped in the ice and drifted for 10 months. Eventually, the ice crushed the powerful ship. Shackleton and his men then drifted for another five months on ice floes. Running low on food and supplies, they escaped in boats to uninhabited Elephant Island.

Knowing their only hope for survival was a dangerous journey across the sea, Shackleton and five men set out in a whaleboat. Their destination was the tiny island of South Georgia. There was a whaling station where they could find help. South Georgia was 800 miles from Elephant Island. The journey took 16 days across a rough and dangerous ocean. Through expert navigation, they landed on the south side of South Georgia.

An Arduous Journey

Although elated to have reached their destination, Shackleton knew their ordeal was not over. The whaling station was on the north side of the island. They would have to cross rugged terrain to reach it. It had been 16 months since the Endurance had become trapped in the ice. The six men set out and eventually reached the whaling station. The whalers couldn’t believe their eyes when these six ragged men walked into their station.

Shackleton never forgot about the men they left behind on Elephant Island. He worried about them every day. Despite his lack of strength he wanted to set sail and rescue them right away. The weather wouldn’t allow for a return trip at that time. Shackleton never gave up. He made four unsuccessful attempts at rescuing his men.

Rescue!

Four months later Shackleton’s perseverance paid off and they successfully arrived at Elephant Island. Shackleton couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw that all his men were alive. They survived despite the lack of food sources and water on this barren island. All his men were loaded onto the ship and they embarked to Chile.

He is an inspirational figure in which I admire greatly. His unmatched perseverance is a lesson that we should all learn. Persevering and overcoming all obstacles is the key to success. Shackleton had a definitive purpose, rescuing his men, and nothing was going to stop him. He was dedicated to his men and put their needs before his. This is the definition of a leader.

The Importance Of Retirement Planning

I have been retired for seven years now and I enjoy every minute of it. I retired when I was 53 years old but could have (and should have) retired at the age of 50. There has been a lot to learn in my retirement. I can describe my retirement in one word, options. There are unlimited options for me now that I didn’t have when I worked for the government. I can be or do anything I want now. Today I want to discuss the importance of retirement planning.

Take Control Of Your Life! My Courses Will Start You On Your Journey To Self-Improvement.

Planning For Retirement

When I was working, I attended a pre-retirement seminar a couple of years before I retired. We were allowed to request attendance five years before our minimum retirement date. At the end of the seminar, I wrote on my evaluation that it was great information. The only problem was we needed the information sooner. It was too late for a lot of people to do what was needed for a comfortable retirement. Here are five things to do for a comfortable retirement.

  1. Begin Planning Early.
  2. Develop Specialized Knowledge and Skills.
  3. Find a Good Financial Planner.
  4. Begin Saving Early.
  5. Pay off Your Mortgage.

Begin Planning For Retirement Early

When I started my career I was 23 years old. Two things that I never thought were going to happen back then were: I would retire; I would get old. When you’re young you never think about getting old but it is inevitable. It happens to all of us. Importance of retirement planning is crucial. Starting your career is when you should start planning for your retirement. Begin thinking about what you want to do and how you want to live when that day finally comes.

Beginning your plan early will allow you to adjust to everything life throws your way. Sometimes life throws you the good things, marriage, children, etc. Other times the bad things death, injury, sickness, etc. Good things and bad will affect your retirement. By planning for the future early in your career you can minimize the impact.

Specialized Skills And Knowledge In Retirement

During my 30 year career, I developed certain skills and knowledge. After I retired I learned that most of my skills and knowledge didn’t transfer to my new life. If you have generalized skills and knowledge, you will learn that everyone is retired with the same skills. There’s a lot of competition. Finding your niche will help you stand out against the competition. I suggest that you research throughout your career skills that are needed in the private sector. Take courses and study those skills to gain the knowledge that you need.

A Financial Planner Is Important

Find a good financial planner. Unless you are an expert on finances you will need a financial planner. They can help you make the right decisions with your money. This will allow you to keep as much money as you can before retirement. It is a big change to go from knowing a check is coming every two weeks to a smaller check once a month. You will need to supplement your retirement with other sources of income if you want to maintain your current lifestyle.

importance-retirement-planning-100-dollar-bills

Save Early And Often

Begin saving as early as you can. The earlier you begin the more money you will have in retirement. I always put money into my Thrift Savings Account, which is the government 401(k). If I had to do it over again I would maximize my contributions. In retirement, you can use your savings to supplement your retirement. I withdraw a certain amount every month. Because the stock market has done so well, my savings have increased.

Saving early is probably the most important thing you can do. I recommend setting a goal for the amount of money you want to save before retirement. For me, the best thing was having it withdrawn from my paycheck and placed into my account. Out of sight, out of mind. Since I never saw the money it was like it never existed. My savings account would grow every two weeks without me doing anything.

My wife and I have been together for 30 years and are happier than ever. Here are some tips on how we keep our relationship fresh and exciting. Get your FREE Relationship Tips Today!

Eliminate That Big Debt

Pay off your mortgage. My mortgage is my biggest expense as it is for most people. Since I transferred a lot during my career I was not able to pay off my last mortgage. I bought houses and sold houses; made and lost money. If I had stayed in one location, in the same house, I wouldn’t have to worry about a mortgage now. I think about what I could do in the places I could go if I didn’t have a mortgage. If at all possible, pay off your mortgage before you retire.

These are just five things I wish I had known before retirement. One can’t overstate the importance of retirement planning. I am not an expert on retirement or financial planning. I hope that you will begin thinking about retirement now that you are young and not wait until it’s too late. Do your research, make a plan, and find a financial planner to help you. Always remember to start saving early.

How Do You Defeat Procrastination?

How do you defeat procrastination? Action! In episode 33 of my podcast, I tackle the crippling effects of inaction. If you find yourself procrastinating and not working towards becoming a better you, you need to listen to this episode. Here is the link to my new podcast site, lessonslearntbecomingabetteryou.wordpress.com

Now That You Have Made The Decision To Begin Your Journey To Self-Improvement These Courses Will Propel You To Success!

Defeating Procrastination

All right, you have decided to become the person others want to be. You’ve taken that first step on your journey. Goals have been set and you have written a detailed plan for accomplishing them. Now what? How are you going to get to that finish line? You see, it’s all a waste of time and energy if you don’t begin to do the work. You have to crack that egg to make your omelet. Congratulations! It’s time to take that first step on your journey to a new you.

This is the most important step, ACTION. Once you have made your decision to accomplish anything, 50% of the work is done. Congratulations once again, you are already halfway there. The other 50% comes from the action of getting it done.

It’s great that you have set your goals, written a good plan, and are ready to change. Unfortunately, nothing will change without ACTION. You must do the work. This is what stops most people. They are unwilling to do the work and make the sacrifices. This is why only 1% of people succeed. You are not like most people. It is inside you to get moving and take that step.

A Small Change Can Defeat Procrastination

A small change in your thought process can result in a large change in your lifestyle. That change is called ACTION. Inaction creates procrastination. Why do you procrastinate?

You have to get out of your comfort zone.

You have a fear of failure.

The fear of success.

Defeat Procrastination By Getting Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Moving out of your comfort zone is difficult. It’s called a comfort zone for reason, it’s comfortable. You don’t like to be uncomfortable, nobody does. But it’s necessary for change.

Whenever you decide to do anything significant, like change, you experience a fear of failure. This is common. Those annoying little Doubt Demons will come out of hiding, repeating those thoughts of failure. “What if I fail, what will people say?”

Procrastination also comes from a fear of success. Many people do not see themselves as being successful. What will happen in your life if you succeed in accomplishing your goal? How will your life change? If your business becomes successful, how will that impact your time? Your family? You will have to deal with these fears before you can take that first step.

Other Reasons

Other reasons for inaction and procrastination can be:

Your goal is overwhelming.

It’s too complicated.

The timing isn’t right.

Goals can be overwhelming. Think about if your goal is to become a published author. The thought of coming up with an exciting plot and intriguing characters that keep the reader engaged. Writing 50,000 to 100,000 words can be staggering.

When you start on a new journey there can be a learning curve. Your goal can seem too complicated. If you decide to start a new business, you might not know what it takes to run a business. You will have to spend a lot of time studying and learning.

The Timing Is Never Right

Probably the greatest cause of procrastination is timing. You want to change your life, but today is not the best day to start. You don’t feel prepared. Equipment needs to be bought. How to Books need to be read. You decide to begin an exercise program to lose weight. Procrastination sets in because you don’t have the right clothes.

defeat-procrastination-scrabble-letters-tomorrow

I’m here to tell you that all the reasons outlined above are one thing. EXCUSES! They all stink.

There Is One Way To Defeat Procrastination

There is one way to defeat procrastination which is created by inaction and you know what it is. ACTION! When you take that first step and put your plan to action, it does some marvelous things to your mindset.

It conquers your fears.

Provides you with the knowledge of how you’re going to accomplish your goal.

K. I. S. S. Things become simpler.

You will eliminate all excuses.

It will ignite a passion within you.

Stepping out of your comfort zone will become tolerable.

You will learn how to embrace failure.

Action will chase those Doubt Demons back into their hiding place. You will be able to control and conquer all your fears.

Focus On WHY

Focusing on your WHY will keep you from worrying about how you’re going to accomplish your goals. You will learn new things and techniques to put your plan into motion.

Your mind will take your overwhelming goal and break it down. You will look at your project in smaller more manageable bits. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. (Please don’t try to eat an elephant. They are magnificent and there aren’t enough of them.)

All the excuses that caused you to procrastinate will become trivial. With ACTION you will begin to eliminate your excuses one by one. Pretty soon they will be all gone.

The greatest reward of taking the first step in putting your plan into ACTION is passion. It will ignite a passion within you to achieve your goal. Once you have lit this passion, you become unstoppable.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is hard. Possibly, one of the hardest things you do. Once you’re out, you realize that you can survive. Even though it might not be comfortable taking ACTION, you find that it is tolerable.

Failure is going to happen. Anyone who has ever accomplished anything great has had many failures along the way. The reason that they were successful was that they persevered. You are going to have failures and setbacks along the way. Embrace your failures, don’t hide from them. Don’t use them as an excuse to quit. Once you fail, you are closer to success. They are just steppingstones along the way.

Quotes About Overcoming Fear With Faith

If you have been following some of my blog posts, then you are familiar with the term faith over fear. Faith is what gives me the confidence that I can handle any situation. Faith gives you the confidence that everything will turn out alright. You know that it will work out in your favor. Therefore, you don’t worry about any negative things that happen along the way. Faith is what keeps those irritating “Doubt Demons” locked in their little dark spaces. No matter how bad things are today, you know that tomorrow is a new day. Tomorrow can be the day when things take a turn for the better. These quotes about overcoming fear with faith will help you conquer all obstacles in your journey to self-improvement.

“Fear has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything And Run’ or ‘Face Everything And Rise.’ The choice is yours.”
~ Zig Ziglar

Fear vs Faith Quotes

Faith builds your confidence. Fear tears it down. To accomplish great achievements you must carry faith with you. As you begin a new venture it can seem overwhelming, almost impossible. To turn it into a reality you will need confidence in yourself and everyone helping you. Everything is possible with faith. In 1969 we sent three astronauts to the moon. Two of the astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin actually landed and walked on the moon. Michael Collins flew the command capsule. This was a phenomenal feat. When they were given the “green light” to launch in July 1969, many scientists and experts thought we were years away from being ready. It took a lot of faith and confidence from the astronauts, engineers, scientists, and mathematicians to proceed on this historic event. In fact, experts only gave them a 50 percent chance of making it back alive.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
~ Deuteronomy 31:6

“I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”
~ Rosa Parks

Now That You Have Made The Decision To Begin Your Journey To Self-Improvement These Courses Will Propel You To Success!

Faith vs Fear, It’s Your Choice

If the people that were involved in the moon landing had focused on their fears, that event would have never happened. Faith and fear are the same things, a choice. You can choose fear and do nothing or you can choose faith and accomplish great things. Fear will keep you right where you’re at, in your comfort zone. Faith will give you the confidence to control your fears and succeed. When you make that decision to change your life, see the outcome that you want, and have faith that it’s going to happen. Does that mean there won’t be obstacles along the way? No, but faith will get you through them. Focusing on your fears will have you turning around and going back to your old, comfortable life.

“Do the thing we fear, and death of fear is certain.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it… that is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear.”
~ Dale Carnegie

Changing and making the decision to improve your life is hard. You will encounter doubts and fears. I pray that these quotes about overcoming fear with faith will help you conquer all obstacles in your journey to self-improvement. Listen to the podcast above where I go more in-depth on faith vs fears.

10 Making The Right Decision Quotes

I am continuing to talk about the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Today I will discuss the seventh step, Decision, The Mastery of Procrastination. I am sure that you, like me, have faced that evil known as procrastination. To be successful and to build wealth, procrastination is an enemy you must conquer. These 10 Making the Right Decision Quotes will help you in this battle.

10 Making The Right Decision Quotes

If you’re looking for self-improvement you will need to change some of the habits that you are currently doing. You will have to decide to change. Congratulations, you are halfway to success! You see, making the right decision is 50% of the solution. The other 50% is commitment. You have to commit to your decision to change.

“When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.”
~ Paulo Coelho

“We are the creative force of our life, and through our own decisions rather than our conditions, if we carefully learn to do things, we can accomplish those goals.”
~ Stephen Covey

Back in the 1930s when Hill was writing his book, a study was undertaken with 25,000 men and women who had experienced failure. They came up with a list of 30 major causes of failure. Lack of decision was near the head of the list. Conversely, each of several hundred people who had accumulated fortunes had the habit of reaching decisions promptly. Also, successful people would take their time in changing their decision.

Opinions Of Others

The majority of people who fail are easily influenced by the opinion of others. They permit the media and other people to do their thinking for them. Opinions are the most abundant thing on earth. Everyone has one and they can be as different as night and day. You will not succeed if you take into account the opinion of others.

“Stay committed to your decisions but stay flexible in your approach.”
~ Tony Robbins

“Unsuccessful people make decisions based on their current situation; successful people make decisions based on where they want to be.”
~ Anonymous

Your mind is yours and only yours, reach your own decisions. Keep them to yourself and discuss them with only like-minded individuals, such as your Master Mind group. When researching to gather information for your decision do so without disclosing your purpose.

How Do You Know You Made The Right Decision

How do you know when the decision you made is the right decision? That is a hard question to answer because you won’t know the answer until you have succeeded or failed. You have to listen to those inner voices. If your decision makes you feel happy and it is the right decision. On the other hand, if you feel cautious or negative you should reconsider your decision.

“Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to help you grow.”
~ Caroline Myss

“In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take and the decisions we waited to make.”
 ~ Anonymous

In most cases, making the right decision is not that difficult. Deciding to solve a challenge in your life is personal. These are decisions for your self-improvement. A personal decision affects you and the people close to you. Some decisions cannot only affect the person making the decision but also have an impact on many others.

Great Decisions

Throughout history, people have been tasked with making decisions that changed history. Abraham Lincoln made the decision to issue the Proclamation of Emancipation. General Dwight Eisenhower made the decision to launch the D-Day invasion. Last July I wrote an article about 56 men who made one of the greatest decisions of all time. They signed the Declaration of Independence knowing that it could potentially cost them their lives.

“You cannot make progress without making decisions.”
~ Jim Rohn

“Unnecessary fear of a bad decision is a major stumbling block to good decisions.”
~ Jun Camp

Making the right decision always takes courage, some more than others. In my not cost you your life but it could cost you your health or financial independence. Making the right decision to improve your income or help comes with a price. You never get anything without giving up something. As long as you’re willing to pay the price your decision for self-improvement could be the greatest decision you make.

Speaking of great decisions, decide today what you are worth. Now that you know your value, go out and get what you are worth. Never settle for anything less. Lock that number in your mind and think about it every day. Don’t stop until you reach your value. Too many people today settle for what they’re given and not what they’re worth.

10 Quotes About Planning For The Future

I am continuing to talk about the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Today I will discuss the sixth step, organize planning. “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

10 Quotes About Planning For The Future

Now that you have your desire or definite purpose you want to tap into your imagination to help create your plan for the future. I discussed in last week’s post how your imagination can be thought of as your workshop where your plans are created and organized. I have also talked about in previous posts the six steps for turning your thoughts into reality. The formation of a practical plan is one of the steps.

  • Find a group of like-minded individuals to help you create your plan.
  • Decide what form of compensation that you will trade for their help.
  • Meet with the group at least twice a week.
  • Maintain perfect harmony between yourself and every member of your group.

You Will Need Help Planning

This group is what is known as a “Master Mind” group. It can consist of as many people as you may need. One person might suffice or you might need many more to tap into their “specialized knowledge.” Let’s face it, it is extremely difficult to accomplish anything alone. We simply don’t have all the knowledge necessary to create our plans for the future.

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”
~ Pablo Picasso

“Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.”
~ Tom Landry

Everything begins in the mind as a thought. It is going to take a solid, practical plan to transform that thought into an actual physical item, such as money. Once you have your plan, go to work. Do something every day and continue to take advice from your “Master Mind” group.

“Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning.”
~ Thomas Edison

“You can always amend a big plan, but you can never expand a little one. I don’t believe in little plans. I believe in plans big enough to meet a situation which we can’t possibly foresee now.”
~ Harry S. Truman

You Never Plan To Fail, But It Happens

Your first plan might not be your best plan and you find it doesn’t work. No worries most first plans fail. Henry Ford built two automobile businesses that failed before he started the Ford Motor Company. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. If you fail, go back and redo your plan and try again. Keep reworking your plan until you find one that works.

“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.”
  ~ George S. Patton

“Unless you have a definite, precise, clearly set goals, you are not going to realize the maximum potential that lies within you.”
~ Zig Ziglar

Working on your plan will help prevent procrastination, self-doubt, and anxiety. As you continue to work on your plan you will build belief in yourself and your plan for the future. As your belief turns to faith then nothing can stop you.

“Plans are of little importance, but planning is essential.”
~ Winston Churchill

“Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now.”
~ Alan Lakein

why-setting-goals-important-sign

Why Setting Goals Is Important

Who actually writes down goals? Well, the best answer is, successful people. Did you know that 96% of all the wealth created in the world is created by 1% of the population? These are the people that are extremely successful in building businesses and making money. By comparison, I recently heard that only 1% of people actually write down their goals. One could deduct that the 1% who are writing down their goals are also the 1% creating 96% of the wealth. For example, in my post last week on becoming an expert, I listed some habits of successful people. One of those habits is that successful people are goal-oriented. This is a great reason why setting goals is important. Taking this all in, I think it’s time we started writing some goals.

Do you need direction in your life? Are you uninspired and procrastinate? My course will show you how to properly set goals and change your life. Goals will put purpose back into your life.

What Are Goals

What are goals? Simply put, goals are just things that you want. Decide on some things that you want and write them down. Now you have some goals. For example, you might want more money, a bigger house, or fame. Maybe you want a better relationship or actually be in a relationship. Whatever you want, write it down.

They must have an end date. By setting an end date, you will stay on track to accomplish them. It helps you do a little bit every day to keep moving forward. You will also be able to track your progress towards reaching your goal. For example, by December 31, 2020, I have earned $1,500,000 profit in my businesses. I can now see how close or far I am to accomplishing it. This allows me to look at my plan and see if it’s working.

Methods

One method of staying on track with your goals is called, “The Seinfeld Method.” In this method, you get a large yearly calendar and hang it on a prominent wall. Establish your goal and your plan. Every day that you do something in your plan and work toward your goal, put a big red “X” on that date. The purpose is to establish a chain and never break the chain.

Another method is to put two jars on your desk. One jar is filled with marbles, paperclips, etc., and the other is empty. Every time you do something towards accomplishing your goal, move the object to the empty jar. This is a great method for accomplishing them. For example, A lot of salespeople use this method when they have a goal of making X amount of sales calls a day.

The Person You Become

What I like most about setting goals and working towards obtaining them, is what I become from the process. Who will you become by focusing on your goals? What kind of person would you be after working on your plan? Like me, you will change. By focusing on them you will begin to get a direction in your life. It will give you a purpose and you will find you are better because of it. This to me is the most important aspect of goal setting, what you become, and another reason why setting goals is important.

Imagination Is More Important Than Knowledge

Imagination is more important than knowledge is a bold statement. Last week I talked about specialized knowledge and how to organize and direct knowledge to make it powerful. Today I’m continuing with the 13-steps to gain riches as written in the book, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. In his book, Hill gives us 13-steps to acquire wealth. The same steps and techniques can be used to acquire anything. This is the fifth step, imagination, and how imagination is more important than knowledge.

Happy Valentine’s Day! My wife and I have been together for 30 years and are happier than ever. Here are some tips on how we keep our relationship fresh and exciting. Get your FREE Relationship Tips Today!

The Importance Of Imagination

One of my favorite sayings is, and I say it a lot, is everything begins in the mind. Disneyland, McDonald’s, Apple, great novels, music, and movies all started in someone’s mind. They began as a thought and with imagination became an idea.

Imagination is the workshop where people formulate their plans. The imaginative part of your mind is what spurs you into action. Without imagination, the Wright brothers would have never gotten off the ground and shown us we could fly. You are only limited by the use of your imagination.

Two Forms Of Imagination

There are two forms of imagination in your mind, synthetic and creative. Synthetic imagination creates nothing. It works with the information it is given, your observations, education, and experience. This is where you can organize old concepts into new combinations and plans.

Creative imagination is when your finite mind is connected to Infinite Intelligence. Hunches and inspirations are received by your creative imagination. It only works when your mind vibrates at an exceedingly fast rate, such as when you focus on a strong desire (your definite purpose) and mix it with emotion. It is through emotion that you increase your mind’s rate of vibration.

The Faculty Of Creative Imagination

Great men and women of the world in all walks of life owe their success to the faculty of creative imagination. They knew how to utilize their minds to turn their definite purpose from an idea into reality. Your imagination just like your body becomes stronger with use. Your imagination like your muscles become weaker through inaction.

To achieve your goals, you must first focus on developing your synthetic imagination. It is necessary for forming your plans. Once your plans are in your synthetic imagination you must commit them to paper. Writing your plans is the first step in converting your thoughts into your reality.

Successful People Use Their Imagination

Ideas are the product of imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge because knowledge comes from your imagination. Most people, even the most successful, didn’t know how to take their ideas and make them work. They used imagination, both synthetic and creative to transform their ideas into reality.

Use your synthetic imagination to formulate your plans on how to achieve your goals. Develop your creative imagination to provide the inspiration and ideas from Infinite Intelligence. Would you like to be in a better place in life this time next year? If so, find your definite purpose, write down a plan for how to make it happen, and begin developing your imagination. We live in an unlimited universe so anything can happen.

Becoming An Expert Episode 29

In this podcast, Becoming An Expert Episode 29, I want to talk about what it takes to become an expert. Would you like to be considered an expert in your field? What are some of the advantages of being known as an expert?

  1. You can charge a higher rate.
  2. People have more confidence and trust in you.
  3. It’s easier to grow your client list.
  4. It helps in marketing what you have to offer.
  5. Etc.

Becoming An Expert Episode 29

People who are considered experts in their field are also some of the most successful. Author Stephen King is an expert in the genre of horror fiction. If you wanted to begin writing horror fiction novels, he would be a good source. In the field of business, Richard Branson would be considered an expert. He has taken a small record store and turned it into several other highly successful businesses. When I’m thinking about American football one name comes to mind, Tom Brady. Because of his success, he would be considered an expert on being a quarterback as well as on becoming a champion.

The thing about becoming an expert and being successful is there are no shortcuts. I know today, living in our fast food society, we want everything right now. Unfortunately, striving to be the best takes time. No one is born an expert. Your gift is inside you when you’re born but you must develop that gift. Becoming an expert only happens through training and experience. It is said that to be an expert at anything you must do it repeatedly for at least 10,000 hours. When I was a Special Agent with DEA, I was considered an expert in narcotics trafficking and smuggling techniques. I didn’t have that knowledge when I was hired or even after I graduated from the Academy. It took many years of studying and experience to become an expert.

Habits Of Successful People

As I was researching this post, I realized that successful people tend to have the same habits. In his book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill spent 20 years studying the richest and most successful men in America at that time. He came up with 13 qualities that all these men shared. I came upon an article on the website weekplan.net which lists 50 habits of successful people. Here are a few of those habits.

  1. They are early risers.
  2. Meditation.
  3. Love of reading.
  4. They spend time on focused thinking.
  5. Exercise is a part of their day.
  6. Their network contains like-minded individuals.
  7. They set goals.
  8. Multiple sources of income.
  9. They avoid things that waste time.
  10. They consider problems as gifts.

Developing A Mastermind Group With Specialized Knowledge

I’m continuing my posts based on the 13 steps for acquiring wealth. Napoleon Hill in his book, Think and Grow Rich, discussed the 13 common steps successful men used to acquire their wealth. Today, I’m going to talk about developing a mastermind group with specialized knowledge. This is the fourth step for acquiring wealth or in accomplishing your goals.

Valentine’s Day is coming! My wife and I have been together for 30 years and are happier than ever. Here are some tips on how we keep our relationship fresh and exciting. Get your FREE Relationship Tips Today!

Developing A Mastermind Group With Specialized Knowledge

There are two types of knowledge, general and specialized. General knowledge is of little use in accomplishing anything. It’s great to have, but it won’t get you anywhere towards accomplishing your goals. Specialized knowledge is organized and intelligently directed through practical plans of action. Knowledge is not power but only potential power. Knowledge becomes power when it’s organized and directed.

Education

Hill believed that our educational system is flawed. It gives students knowledge but never teaches them how to organize and use that knowledge. For example, many college graduates don’t work in their field of study. They spend four years gaining knowledge of which most is of little use to them.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not against education. I’m glad that I went to college and that my two daughters are currently attending universities. The knowledge that we learned has made us better people. That being said, the truth is, I was never taught how to use that knowledge to accomplish something.

Specialized Knowledge

This is why it is important to develop a mastermind group with specialized knowledge. Most people have general knowledge and ideas. What they lack is the specialized knowledge to turn their idea into money. For example, an inventor knows how to build things but doesn’t know how to market or sell what they’ve built. They don’t know how to manage employees or of potential legal issues.

Mastermind Group

How can they overcome these obstacles and lack of knowledge? Form a mastermind group and bring in people with the specialized knowledge they lack. They can use that knowledge and organize it into a definite plan of action. Their next step is to go to work.

They can continue to add on to their mastermind group by finding others with specialized knowledge they can put to use. Successful people don’t stop acquiring specialized knowledge. I love to learn both general and specialized knowledge. Learning keeps me alive and I’ll only stop learning when I die.

Steps

To be successful in acquiring wealth or accomplishing a goal you need to:

  1. Form a team. Look for and find like-minded people with the specialized knowledge that you don’t have;
  2. Work together towards a definite purpose;
  3. Organize the specialized knowledge and put it to use;
  4. Form practical plans for accomplishing your definite purpose;
  5. Put action to your plans and work in harmony.

Follow the above steps and you will get closer to your goals every day.

Final Thoughts

Developing a mastermind group with specialized knowledge is just one of the steps on your journey to success. Don’t try to take your journey alone. No one knows everything and successful people become so as a team. Write down the knowledge that you do not have and begin looking for people with specialized knowledge. Develop your mastermind group and go do something great.
